The event was held at the Faith West Academy, in Katy, and reunited 15 teams from the Houston and San Antonio areas in the 15s age group. It was an amazing opportunity to see new faces as most of the teams entered don’t typically compete in the major events and there were plenty of intriguing names in action during the day.
We’re presenting the most exciting prospects that were in action over the week and today, in our last article, let’s highlight the setter who kept their teams ticking:
Avery Weige
Avery Weige
Weige was playing one age group up with H Skyline 15 Gray, but her game and her mental skills were totally aligned with what the tournament required. She did a very good job running her team’s offense and displayed a very good setting technique, fully stretching her arms after she made contact with the ball and having remarkable precision with her locations. Weige also had some good serving runs that got opponents out of system and used her good size and skills to score on setter dumps occasionally. She was always very calm on the court and made good decisions with her distribution.
Guen Blackburn
Guen Blackburn
A setter with a high volleyball IQ and good hands, Blackburn had a solid day with her team TX Legacy 15 Adidas. Her offensive system was built upon her impressive precision as, although not very complex or elaborated, it kept the hitters in a good position to score over and over again. Blackburn also took over hitting duties on some rotations and did well with it, using her technique and vision to score. She also played some strong defense and had some success with her serving on certain occasions.
Kennedy Marriott
Kennedy Marriott
Marriott was an integral part of a promising and entertaining NHouston Elite 15 Elite team in the event. She displayed some great setting hands, being able to maintain a great deal of precision with her locations even when she had to track passes off the net. Marriott also did a very good job with her ball distribution, keeping all her hitters involved whenever possible, but also switching and sticking with the most effective ones in big moments. The setter also scored herself on dumps and caused some issues for opponents from the service line with her tricky floater.
Saira Keval
Saira Keval
Keval had a strong group of hitters to work with in her Texas Twisters 15 Royal team and made the most of it, sharing the ball among them and keeping the team in a good offensive rhythm. She worked with good passing for most of the time, but when that wasn’t the case, she displayed good agility and athleticism to run around the court and get to the ball in a good position to set. Also a strong defensive player, Keval also had a very positive attitude on the court, playing with a smile on her face and keeping things light for her teammates.
Jordyn Priewe
Jordyn Priewe
Priewe was one of the most talented and important players in her Houston Force 15 Jedi team. She did a very good job with her setting, feeding her hitters with solid assists and was great at remaining accurate with her locations even when she had to work with a pass off the net. Priewe also displayed good resources and an interesting ability to improvise when she had to deal with passes too tight, getting good sets out of them and occasionally going up and scoring on two. She also played as a hitter on some rotations and was very effective at it.
