Continue ReadingThis past weekend was the OKRVA Regional Championships. Almost every age had a “bid” division and a “Club” division. Those competing in the BID division, were in search of finishing high enough to keep their season alive and grab an elusive national tournament bid. Some teams already earned their bid at a national qualifier earlier in the season. Therefore those teams tend to skip this tournament, such as, TPV 16-1, UPVBC 17 Elite, and Peak 15-1. We are going to take a look at some awesome players from the 14s division all the way to the 17s division this week. We will work our way up, starting with the youngest group first.
Top 8:
Gold Champion- UPVBC 14 Elite
2nd Place- TPV 14-1
3rd- Peak 14-2
4th- Peak 14-3
5th- OK Charge 14 National
6th- TPV 14-2
7th- Virago 14-1/OK Charge 14 American
Players:
Giovanna Jelsing- Middle Blocker #10 for UPVBC 14 Elite. It looked like it was an inevitable crash course between UPVBC 14 Elite and TPV 14-1. Giovanna is an exceptional player. She brings immense power for just a 14s player. She also transitions really well, which allows her to be available often. This was pivotal to this team getting to the championship and ultimately winning it too.
Brier Behymer- Outside Hitter #14 for Peak 14-2. Brier is a firecracker! Much like a roll of blackcats, its hard to tell when she we go off and make a huge bang but it will definitely happen. Just make sure and stay clear when it does happen. I was impressed with some of the plays and shots she was able to make when her team needed it most. She was a huge in her team grabbing the last bid in the 14s division.
Madilyn Hill- Right Side Hitter #6 for UPVBC 14 Elite. She has a ton of success on that right side pin. You don’t typically see dominating right side hitters this young but that only shows how especial she is. She is typically matched up against a smaller blocker and she takes full advantage of this. She has tremendous upside and a bright future ahead.
Aliyah Owens- Setter #8 for TPV 14-1. She is truly a floor general. Her attitude and effort set the tone for her team. Her ability to put up a consistent ball to the pins really allow this team plenty of opportunities to score. Look for her to be very productive for her high school program in the near future.
Olivia Shanahan- Libero #7 for Virago 14-1. This is a hard working player! She flies around the court and almost seems to enjoy hitting the hardwood for a dig. She also covers a lot of court in serve receive and covers it well. She played a huge role in why Virago was able to finish in the top 8 at Regionals and bring home three tournament titles this season.
Evelyn Goodwin- Outside Hitter for TPV 14-1. Evelyn had a great 8th grade school season. She was a 6 rotation dominating player. Earning All tournament multiple times. She has only gotten better this club season! She can play and contribute heavily in all 6 rotations when needed. Be on the lookout for some possible varsity playing time as a freshman.
Wrap Up:

To those whos season came to a close- Great job this year! We all have taken strides forward and had many laughs along the way.
