Continue ReadingThis past weekend was the OKRVA Regional Championships. Almost every age had a “bid” division and a “Club” division. Those competing in the BID division, were in search of finishing high enough to keep their season alive and grab an elusive national tournament bid. Some teams already earned their bid at a national qualifier earlier in the season. Therefore those teams tend to skip this tournament, such as, TPV 16-1, UPVBC 17 Elite, and Peak 15-1. We are going to take a look at some awesome players from the 14s division all the way to the 17s division this week. We will work our way up, starting with the youngest group first.
Top 8:
Gold Champion- Peak 17-1
2nd Place- OK Charge 17UA
3rd- TPV 17-1
4th- Rise 17-1
5th- OK Charge 17UA East
6th- Peak 17-2
7th- UPVBC 17 Pink/OK Charge 17 National
Players:
Addison Nichols Addison Nichols 6'0" | RS Oklahoma Christian | 2024 State OK – Right Side Hitter #10 for OK Charge 17UA. Addison is a huge part of her club and school team. They have a strong junior and senior group this upcoming season. Look for OCS to continue its climb to the top. I was able to watch her and this Charge team early in the season and they have both taken big steps forward. Not much of a shocker with coach Ward driving the bus. I would love to see her stats from the tournament. Each time I was able to stop by their court, she was almost unstoppable.
Brooke Edwards Brooke Edwards 5'7" | DS/L Edmond Santa Fe | 2024 State OK – Defensive Specialist #3 for OK Charge 17 National. Brooke has impressed me each time I have seen her and this team. Her hustle and early reading of the play helps her dig even the toughest of swings. Look for progress this club season to bleed straight into high school. Adding massive value to an already elite high school program.
Bailey Lowder Bailey Lowder 5'11" | OH MacArthur | 2024 State OK – Outside Hitter for Rise 17-1. I have known Bailey for a few years now. She has a powerful swing and we know what she can do up front but the biggest progress I saw from this club season, is her back row play. She not only has become better at digging in transition but she takes a lot of pride in this area. She made some great movements to give her platform a great angle. She is working hard and becoming a solid all around player.
Ally Fees Ally Fees 5'11" | OH Mt. St. Mary | 2024 State OK – Outside Hitter for Peak 17-1. Ally is a menace on the outside too for Peak 17-1. Defenses have a rough time keeping up with one of their outside hitters, yet alone both. SWOSU was in attendance for a couple of her matches and they got to see her shine. She has a great knack for finding open seams in the block and exploiting it. Her energy and ability to be a leader help keep her team playing steady throughout a match. Her and MSM will be looking to win another state title this upcoming fall.
Wrap Up:
We had an amazing club season here in Oklahoma. We qualified 23 girls indoor teams from ages 14 through 18. That list will be available on OKRVA website, as well as, what tournament they earned it at. Those headed to nationals- Congrats, safe travels and we know you will represent us well. To those whos season came to a close- Great job this year! We all have taken strides forward and had many laughs along the way.
