It’s only because of them that attackers get some of the opportunities they do. Everyone loves to celebrate the big kill but I love seeing teams celebrating the huge defensive plays that are made. I personally love seeing a libero that is reading the other side like she has a crystal ball and she makes most plays look routine. The following are some liberos that caught my eye during the Prep Dig Chi-Town Classic.
Kennedi Brass
Kennedi Brass
Brass is a fun athlete to watch because she does not let much touch the floor. I saw her make some really exciting plays but also the plays that others may need to scramble for but Brass sees it well in advance. She gives her team so many opportunities to run in system and put big points up on the board.
Alida McHugh
Alida McHugh
McHugh is sound in her movement and platform. She is strong with her hands and does a nice job taking the 2nd ball. McHugh is also quick with her reactions and covers her attackers. The opposing team was definitely trying to send the ball away from her whether in serve receive or defense. She was everywhere and made it really difficult for the opponent to score.
Kline has quick reactions and gets a hand on the ball before most even know its been hit. She is a great libero for this Impact team and she has quick feet and a natural ability to get in the right position for whatever is coming over the net. Kline is a key piece for her squad and I’m looking forward to see what she does in the fall.
Abbott has this super power but I’m not sure if she has a magnetic ability and just super speed but she gets her hands on the most impossible attacks. She is simply relentless on defense and has great form when passing.
Murkowski is the Ice libero that keeps the offense running smoothly. She gets her hips under the ball and keeps a nice clean platform in serve receive. Murkowski makes it easy for her setters to run the offense and helped her team make it to the championship match.
