The three teams listed below have three completely different things going on with them, and what their youth gives them should dictate their success in the fall.
Northview
After a 28-win season, one would expect the Knights to rest and take a step back in their recent successes. Not this squad, however. The great majority of their starters return, highlighted by Keira Lucas Keira Lucas 5'10" | OH Northview | 2025 State IN (’25, 5-10 OH). Her six kills per set start and end every conversation to the Knights’ success. Bradee McDonald (’25, 5-3 DS/L) should be wearing the special jersey come August, and is a do-everything defender for this shorter-than-average squad. Karsyn Buck (’26, 5-6 S/RS) can do a little of everything, and will probably be asked to set and attack for the second straight season after an exceptional rookie campaign.
Plainfield
And now for something completely different. The Quakers struggled at times last fall due to injuries and inexperience in their depth. Fast-forward a year later, and we hope to see what they’re made of when fully healthy. Ava Utterback Ava Utterback 5'10" | OH Plainfield | 2024 State #24 Nation IN (’24, 5-11 OH, Louisville commit) is an explosive pin attacker that can put balls away from anywhere, when healthy. Maddie Lynch (’24, 6-1 S/RS) has the size to compete in 4A at a high level, but does she have the aggression and confidence? Rylee Scott (’25, 5-3 DS/L) might end up being the libero by default, as the experience at floor defender for the Quakers is thin behind her.
Seymour
The problem with being a large school in southern Indiana is simple; beat Floyd Central and/or Providence, and you have a shot at a state title. Unfortunately, that’s a pretty big problem, but it’s not like Seymour doesn’t have the talent. Producing 25 wins per year is the standard, and this fall’s squad looks to keep that going. Journee Brown Journee Brown 6'2" | MB Seymour | 2024 State IN (’24, 5-11 MB) is the biggest returner, and her net defense will be much needed. Greer Henry (’25, 5-7 OH) is a spitfire of an outside that should be a primary passing six-rotation option for the Owls. Breanna Lawrence Breanna Lawrence 5'8" | DS/L Seymour | 2024 IN (’24, 5-9 OH) might be the most consistent attacker of the bunch, and also looks to play the six-rotation game at a small college near you in the fall of ’24. The question remains; who’s setting?
