Prep Dig was in attendance to scout three of the early morning matches. Here is the first of two reports on athletes who had quality performances.
By far the most entertaining match I scouted was a 25-17, 25-15, match victory by Derby over Garden Plain.
Kaylor Wasinger Kaylor Wasinger 5'9" | OH Garden Plain | 2024 State KS , 5’8”, OH, Garden Plain, ‘24
Wasinger mashes volleyballs. She has the complete package as a hitter, a big reach, a solid approach, and the ability to jump. Wasinger was on fire in the Owls’ second match finishing with 12 kills in the loss to Derby. She has committed to play with the Division II Newman Jets.
Ava Mies, 5’7, DS/OH, Garden Plain, ‘25
Mies is very talented and can play six rotations. She can fill up a stat sheet as she finished the match against Derby with eight serve receptions, five digs, and two kills. She is very strong and has shoulders like professional wrestler Rhea Ripley. Every NAIA and JUCO college in Kansas needs to put this junior on their recruiting radar.
Lily Waters Lily Waters 5'10" | OH Derby | 2025 State KS , 5’9”, OH, Derby, ‘25
The water hose that put out the fire that Wasinger was bringing was provided by the Panthers’ Lilly Waters. Her tip game was on point during Derby’s win. She finished the match with 12 kills, nine serve receptions, and five digs. She is a six-rotation player, is quick on her feet, and communicates well.
Brooke Rice, 6’0”, MH, Derby, ‘24
Rice’s lucky number on Friday was three. The Derby middle-hitter finished with three kills, three digs, and three serve receptions. She has a big reach and does not take a rally off. The Panther prospect plays composed and is willing to sacrifice her body to continue a rally.
I scouted the host Indians’ second match of the morning which ended up being a 25-17, 23-25 split against Tonganoxie.
Grace Rowland Grace Rowland 5'8" | OH Andale | 2024 State KS , 5’8”, OH, Andale, ‘24
She is the Team Clown during warmups and off the court, but once the game action starts Rowland becomes a “Killer Clown” for the Andale Indians. She finished with nine kills, nine serve receptions, and five digs in the match against Tonganoxie. Rowland played all six rotations and should be looked at by every JUCO program in Kansas.
Ella Eck Ella Eck 5'10" | MB Andale | 2025 State KS , 5’10”, MH, Andale, ‘24
Eck is long and lanky with a solid net presence. She can block attacks and make kills. She has a compact swing and finished with three kills and two blocks in the match against Tonganoxie.
