Here is a list of athletes in the Class of 2024 who posted solid block totals as juniors and will be looking to increase those numbers and their recruiting status as seniors starting in August.
Taylor Damme Taylor Damme 5'11" | OH Perry-Lecompton | 2024 State KS , 5’11”, OH, Perry-Lecompton
Damme is a blocking machine. For her third straight season, she finished more than 100 blocks. During the 2022 season, she collected 101 total blocks. The tall timber has 348 career blocks and will be looking to join the “500 Club” in 2023. Damme also has 888 career kills and with a healthy senior season should eclipse 1,000 career kills. Damme is currently ranked No. 97 in the Prep Dig Kansas rankings for the Class of 2024.
Mallory Mooney Mallory Mooney 5'10" | MB Hoisington | 2024 State KS , 5”10”, MH, Hoisington
Mooney posted impressive bock numbers as a junior with 89 total blocks. She finished the 2022 season with 146 kills for the Cardinals. Mooney is also an accomplished basketball player and based on her Hudl highlights she appears to be dedicated to playing basketball at the next level.
Abby Elffner, 6’1”, MH, Hiawatha
Ellfner racked up 77 total blocks during her junior campaign. That total represented an increase of 20 blocks from her sophomore season. She really blossomed as a hitter in 2022 finishing with 397 kills almost doubling her kill output from 2021. Elffner has a long reach and tree trunks for legs. She also can put a basketball in the net as a multi-sport prospect.
Rian Rodriquez, 5’6”, OH, Holcomb
The shortest prospect among this group of block leaders is Holcomb’s Rodriguez. She finished with 61 total blocks during her junior season. The Longhorn prospect has a composed approach and an impressive swing. She can jump over cars and is also an accomplished softball and basketball player. She should have lots of options to compete at the college level in one of the sports or the other.
Tinley Scott, 5’8”, MH, Smoky Valley
Scott has a shorter resume than others in this group. Her junior season was the first that she saw quality varsity time for the stacked Viking program. She tallied 54 blocks and 137 kills during the 2022 season. She has a compact swing and hits the ball with authority. There will be plenty of sets of eyes on Scott and her Smoky Valley teammates as the Vikings should be state contenders in Class 3A.
