Here are three more teams I saw that had me pay attention a little more than usual.
Oldenburg Academy
This 1A school located about halfway between Indianapolis and Cincinnati has some nice size to go with their skill. Ali Nobbe Ali Nobbe 6'1" | OH Oldenburg Academy | 2027 State IN (’27, 6-1 OH) is a long and lean outside that, once she gains some strength, will be a force to be reckoned with. As it was she put a ton of balls away during play last night from the left pin. Kate Weber (’24, 5-10 S) might be part of a 6-2 next fall, but for now, she ran the show like it was hers and located the ball well. Rachel Suttmann (’26, 6-2 MB) is yet another entry into the big and youthful volleyball player that this school has. She blocked a ton of balls last night and moved well for her size and age.
Cascade
Smaller but more skilled, Cascade is located west of Indianapolis. More of these kids play club ball, so don’t underestimate their size. The biggest of the bunch is Allie Weigel (’26, 5-10 OH), who could be anything from a primary passing outside to a three rotation attacker. She pounded away at opponents all night last night. Grace Grey (’25, 5-6 S) might be part of a 6-2, but held her own last night running an offense against 4A Martinsville. Captain Avery Littrell Avery Littrell 5'4" | DS/L Cascade | 2024 State IN (’24, 5-6 DS/L) is the anchor of the defense for the Cadets, and could pass half the court if you let her.
Guerin Catholic
I didn’t know what to make of this squad. Clearly, they were running a modified 6-2 last fall, but with all of that graduation, things have to change, right? Um, not really. Setters Hailey Lytle (’24, 5-6 S) and Lizzy Cairn (’25, 5-6 S) defended their positions well, located sets well and in tempo, dealt with a bunch of iffy passing and never gave up. Paige Mascari Paige Mascari 5'7" | OH Guerin Catholic | 2024 State IN (’24, 5-8 OH) is most likely the Golden Eagles’ primary setting target, and the only source of consistent point scoring on the attack most of the night.
