Continue ReadingUSA Jr Nationals, which will be held in Chicago at the end of June and early July, is the ultimate test to the end of the season as it will bring together all of the teams who have earned a bid to participate. These wonderful teams have proven themselves through a very long and grueling club season and will compete against other top notch teams who have earned the right to play in this prestigious tourney. We will be highlighting teams and individual players that we think you should be watching during the tourney in this series of articles. Let’s take a look at a few names to know!
Texas United will be competing in the Liberty Division of USA Jr Nationals. They are from the Lone Star Region and have been competing well in national qualifiers all season long. They earned their bid at the Far Western National Qualifier in Reno. They are no stranger to Nationals as they earned a big and competed in it last year as well. Head coach Jason Karim is also no stranger to Nationals as he has led many teams to glory in his coaching tenure. Here are just a few of the names to know from their talented squad.
Brynn Haskins [2024] 6-1 Middle (HS: Dawson/Club: Texas United/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Brynn is currently an unranked prospect in the 2024 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. She plays volleyball at Glenda Dawson High School and also plays club for Texas Ubnited volleyball. Every team needs a big strong middle to shore up their defense and provide some hard hitting quick attacks out of the middle and that is exactly what this squad gets with Miss Haskins. She is super quick off of the ground and drives her feet hard into the court in order to accomplish that feat. She truly understands hitting angles as she routinely turns on the ball in mid-air so she doesn’t get blocked by opposing middles. As an attacker, she is very capable of hitting both the cut and cut-back shot very sharply which helps to keep her hitting percentage very efficient. Overpasses disappear in a hurry when she is in the front row as she has a solid wrist snap to put them down. Her long reach helps to stifle opposing hitters as they have to adjust their angle because of her presence.
Addison Moss [2024] 5-10 Outside (HS: Dawson/Club: Texas United/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Addison is currently an unranked prospect in the 2025 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings, but is listed on our official watch list. She plays volleyball at Prosper High School and also for the Texas Advantage Volleyball club program. Miss Moss is a very talented two-sport star who also excels on the beach scene. The explosive left side pin can be seen overpowering blockers at will every time she steps on the court. Her strong right arm is one of the main reasons why this squad has had some national level success. She can score from just about anywhere on the court and they run her a lot out of dedicated play sets out of serve receive. I love how she has no fear and unleashes her cannon on anyone who wants it. Being a true OH1 is not for the faint hearted as they have to have a short memory and keep swinging no matter what happens. This is exactly who Miss Moss is and it is super fun to watch.
Bea Angeles Bea Angeles 5'3" | DS/L Manvel | 2024 State TX [2024] 5-3 Libero (HS: Manvel/Club: Texas United/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Bea is currently an unranked prospect in the 2024 Class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. She plays volleyball for Manvel High School and also plays club for the Texas United volleyball program. This young lady plays the libero position the way it is supposed to be played…fast and furious. The dexterity in her lower body allows her to be extremely flexible toward the left and right as balls are not directly to her. The grace at which she operates while digging looks like a professional dancer performing on stage. I love how she is able to dig balls well outside of her normal reach by lunging out to extend her range. This team’s success can be directly attributed to her tenacity on defense. The fact that she can dig and pass with her hands also makes her an amazing key component on this roster. She also does a wonderful job of setting the second ball when the setter digs the first. This is why the team can stay super aggressive and compete with anyone.
Setters Rowan Haecker and Makenzi Petten do a masterful job of spreading the ball around to all of their hitters in order to keep the defense honest and not cheat to one side. Opposite Lauren Kerr is a big stopper for this squad on the right pin. She puts up a solid block and hits a heavy ball also. Middle Christian Fairbanks is athletic and can get up in a hurry off of the floor. She contributes well on both the defensive and offensive end. I like how well she presses on the net to seal it from would be attackers. There are many more stars on this team that we will be watching all tourney long. Stay tuned for more on their journey in Chicago.
