For the first time ever, we’re getting a sneak peak of the big names of tomorrow. In Prep Dig’s first ever Freshman Showcase series, some of the top 2027s have been putting on a show! Michigan’s Freshman Showcase was a real doozy of talent.
With many of these players coming off of big club seasons on the 14s levels, i could see an argument for a majority of these players going off to have big debuts on some of the top varsity programs in the state!
Without further ado, let’s check out some of the fresh faces, you need to keep up with this fall!
Marlie Smith – 5’9 S – Clarkston
One of the most dynamic setters in the gym! As a freshman, Smith is doing some really high level things and showing a lot of maturity in her play. This player has the chops to also dual as an attacker and be pretty effective. Clarkston could use both her setting and attacking this fall.
Eleanor Williams – 6’0 OPP – Romeo
Big lefty swinger on the right pin, this player could be the one that brings Romeo back to State prominence after a few years. Her ability to score is top notch and she also shows off some nice hands to be an effective setter. A utility Romeo may utilize this fall.
Calli LeFevre Calli LeFevre 5'11" | OH Marian | 2027 State MI – 5’11 OH/OPP – Marian
LeFevre plays the game with a lot of energy and and excitement. LeFevre is quick off of the ground and boasts an already impressive array of shots. As much as Marian lost this past season, they’re bringing in some big young guns to make a big tournament run this fall!
Makayla Naves – 5’7 L – Grand Blanc
Listed as a DS/L, Naves can really pop and float amongst the best of them. She has a really nice hand to ball contact on her swing and a nice first contact. With the loss of Remi Madison at Grand Blanc, Naves seems to be the perfect player to step in and take the reigns for GB.
Kate Kalczynski – 6’0 OH – Mercy
She’s a long, big whip of an arm and brings a lot of heat behind every swing. Kalczynski shows all of the features to be exactly what Mercy needs to move over the hump in post season. While young, Kalczynski plays with a lot of maturity and already swings with the best of the best.
Olivia Berishaj – 5’10 MB/OH – Utica Eisenhower
This player shows off a lot of versatility when she plays. Listed as a middle, I could see an argument for her to end up on the pins in the future. Berishaj plays with a lot of fun energy and its infectious to those around her. Eisenhower has a big freshman class coming in around Berishaj and will be pretty dangerous to contain this coming season.
Maddie Monroe – 5’9 OH/L – Marian
Another energetic player in the gym, Monroe has a lot fire when she plays. Very talkative and always bettering the play. Her first contact is really strong, but can also dual as a nice attacker when need be. Her and her sisters were both highlights to the showcase and will play big roles for Marian down the road.
Avery Thorp Avery Thorp 6'1" | MB Plainwell | 2027 State MI – 6’1 MB – Plainwell
She’s long, jumps well and hits a real heavy ball in the middle. Dead Frog has been showcasing some real talent out of the middle as of late and Thorp looks to be the next in line for the club. At her age, she moves well along the net and has a nice read for the game
Josie Seets – 5’11 OPP – Clarkston
A really strong pin attacker, this player hits a really mean ball over her shoulder on the right side! Seets could be a real power player for an already explosive Clarkston team in the fall!
