Prep Dig attended the tournament and scouted players specifically from Kansas.
Here is a report on five players from the Kansas high schools who caught my attention during the first four rounds of action from Salina.
Ella Burnett Ella Burnett 6'2" | MB Erie/ Club JOMO | 2024 State KS , 6’2”, MB/OH, Erie, ‘24
Burnett can be a beast. I saw her play club ball during the spring season. She has long arms and can jump. She played on a very talented tournament team that included three players featured in yesterday’s scouting report from KWU. I would have liked to see her be a little more aggressive calling for the ball while playing with that group. She is a solid blocker and has a bright future. I could see her signing with a Kansas NAIA or JUCO program in the near future.
Anistyn Gaskill, 5’6”, S/DS, Manhattan, ‘25
Gaskill is the kind of player who can just make a team complete. She plays a very poised game. The Manhattan prospect is a great team player, helping players up off the court and providing encouragement when the game is getting away. She is a consistent passer and setter and plays with a quiet frame. Gaskill plays the game the right way. She plays club ball with KS Networks.
Shelby Vance, 5’10”, MB/OH, Minneapolis, ‘25
I like Vance’s game. She has a really good serve that is hard and accurate. She can jump and has a nice approach when attacking. She appeared to me to be very coachable during the camp and still has two years of high school ball to continue to improve her game. She plays club ball with the SE Elite.
Tamia Cheeks Tamia Cheeks 5'8" | MB Salina South | 2025 State KS , 5’7”, MB/OH, Salina South, ‘25
Cheeks is the rawest talent of this group. The package is there for her, she just needs to complete the puzzle and hone her game. She is primarily a front-row-only player, but she has a quick swing and a big reach at the net. The Salina South prospect has an athletic frame and would benefit by adding more upper-body strength. She plays club ball with the SE Elite.
Kynlee Hamel, 5’11”, MB/OH, Concordia, ‘26
Hamel is the youngest player in this group and arguably the most athletic. She has the prototypical volleyball frame with long arms and long legs. She has a solid blocking presence at the net as a blocker and can attack from the outside or the middle. The Concordia prospect takes over in high-pressure situations and can have a calming effect on her teammates. It will be interesting to see if she has another growth spurt before college.
