This prospect group is sure to make a big impact in the years to come.
Each participant brought their own strengths to the table last Saturday.
Here’s the third part of our series of player evaluations from the group as they get set to begin their prep careers.
Kyler Madison Kyler Madison 5'6" | DS/L Milford | 2027 MI , DS/L Milford/Dynamite
Madison was a very consistent passer throughout the showcase. She had good first contact and her eyes looked the ball into her arms like they were glued to it. Sometimes it looked like her serve receive was a video playing on a loop because she was able to replicate the same form time and again. During scrimmage play, Madison displayed a lot of quickness and could make some tough digs look relatively easy. She’s got the opportunity to be a real impact player early on in the Lakes Valley Conference.
Demi McCoy, OH Country Day/Michigan Elite
McCoy didn’t get to quite show her full potential due to a late injury, but prior to that she was definitely someone drawing a lot of attention. There weren’t many prospects that could match her overall explosiveness off the floor, as well as the arm speed she displayed with her swing. She’s got a lot of power that can still be fine-tuned, but she won’t have to back down to many blockers she comes across. Defensively, McCoy also has good instincts and can get to a lot of attacks with her quickness and reaction time.
Melayna Minyard Melayna Minyard 5'7" | OH Chelsea | 2027 MI , OH Chelsea/Haifive
Minyard can play a number of positions, as she displayed hitting, setting and defensive skills. In all facets, Minyard did a good job of taking the play as it was and not trying to force an aggressive display or make a highlight when it wasn’t there. Sometimes making the smart play is the best play. Minyard has quick reactions as well, able to dig up a ball with a quick little flick of the arms. She stays calm under pressure in the back row. As a hitter, Minyard had some struggles with consistently getting good swings on the ball, but she started to find her groove as the showcase progressed.
Joelle Mio Joelle Mio 5'1" | DS/L Marian | 2027 MI , DS/L Marian/Team Detroit
If you haven’t noticed, Marian has a lot of impressive incoming freshmen this fall. Mio is a defender that has the potential to make a big impact for the program. She was solid and steady in her serve receive and looked technically sound. Mio can also pack a punch from the service line, which should only improve at Marian. As she gets more reps at the prep level, her confidence should lead her to being more comfortable as a back row leader and complete her overall game.
Brenna Mirovsky Brenna Mirovsky 5'7" | S Oxford | 2027 State MI , S Oxford/Michigan Elite
Mirovsky played with a lot of energy and effort throughout the showcase. She brought the same enthusiasm and hustle during the first drill to the last point of scrimmage play. Mirovsky was also one of the best communicators in the showcase, doing a great job of keeping everyone on the same page. As a setter, she did a good job of hitting locations and making it look relatively effortless despite the energy she was using in other areas of the game.
Madison Monroe Madison Monroe 5'8" | DS/L Bloomfield Hills Marian | 2027 MI , DS/L Marian/Michigan Elite
Monroe is another part of a loaded Marian freshman class. What she brings to the court is a lot of energy, but also a high court IQ. She stays very engaged in the play and communicates well with her teammates while also being able to remain laser-focused on her role in the rally. Monroe has top-level first contact, but she also has the ability to play an outside hitter role when needed. In either position, she makes good decisions that regularly pay off.
Samantha Monroe Samantha Monroe 6'0" | MB Bloomfield Hills Marian | 2027 MI , MH Marian/Legacy
Monroe was up against some impressive middle prospects in this showcase, but held her own. The 6-footer that is also going to be a Marian Mustang has a long and looming presence at the net. Her blocking is already a strength, as she was able to stuff and slow down a lot of power swings. On the attack, she’s got a great foundation to build on. Monroe plays well above the net and has some power, just needs to add consistency and mix up her attack angles. That shouldn’t take long while playing at Marian.
