Here’s how it works: I’ll pop up a random number generator that includes the 2024 rankings. I’ll generate eight numbers and the eight that come up will be the ranking of the player. I’ll then spotlight those players in the article to help give them some more attention.
There’s 88 players ranked in our Class of 2024. Let’s see who has the lucky numbers this month:
75. Trista Ameel Trista Ameel 5'10" | DS/L Romeo | 2024 State MI , DS/L Romeo/Michigan Elite
Ameel is off to a strong start to the prep season. As Romeo looks to get back to being a D1 contender, the senior libero is very active in the back row and getting to a lot of opposing attacks. She’s consistently putting up double-digit digs already and looks very calm and collected in pressure situations. She’s got a natural leadership ability as well.
51. Karlie Vogelheim Karlie Vogelheim 5'11" | MB Brighton | 2024 State MI , MB Brighton/L2
After an injury-plagued 2022 season, Brighton is off to a fast start in 2023 and Vogelheim is a powerful weapon at the net for the Bulldogs. She’s showcasing a high finishing rate as she has great chemistry with her setter to get the ball out quickly and with a lot of velocity. At 6’1”, Vogelheim is also a big blocking force that can play well above the net.
29. Sydney Ryan Sydney Ryan 6'3" | RS Seaholm | 2024 State MI , RS Seaholm/Michigan Elite
At 6’3”, Ryan is a long outside that makes some of her attacks look quite effortless, yet are still very effective. She can dial up a lot of power, but does a good job of taking the set as it is and still putting her attacks in a good location with a chance to score. Ryan has the ability to transition quickly from defense to offense. She can give her all on a block and still produce a powerful swing seconds later.
45. Clara Gyomory Clara Gyomory 5'10" | RS North Branch | 2024 State MI , RS North Branch/NBVBC
Newly committed to Northwood, Gyomory is off to a great start in her 2023 season. She’s got the experience North Branch squad living up to expectations as a the team to beat in Division 2 once again. Gyomory has put down 81 kills in 21 sets while hitting .359 against some of the best competition in the state. Gyomory also has 21 aces on the young season. She’s starting her 2023 season right where she left off in 2022.
19. Taya Nordmann Taya Nordmann 6'2" | MB Dewitt | 2024 State MI , MB DeWitt/Legacy
Nordmann hopes to help DeWitt be a real force in Division 1 this year. The senior middle can also play on the right side, but either spot sees her as a consistent finisher. Nordmann looks like she floats in the air for seconds, which allows her to adjust to the sets quickly and find multiple ways to finish points. Her power game is tough to stop, but she shows a lot of intelligence with her offspeed shots as well.
65. Delaney Zielke Delaney Zielke 5'9" | RS Notre Dame Prep | 2024 State MI , RS Notre Dame Prep
Zielke can play anywhere along the net, which makes her a valuable asset for the Irish this fall. Despite being listed at 5’9”, she’s proven she can battle at the middle of the net with opponents much longer than her. This fall will see Zielke have an opportunity to really expand her role. She looks to have added some new wrinkles to her came which should help her rack up the kills in 2023.
23. Olivia Behen Olivia Behen 5'5" | DS/L Saline | 2024 State MI , DS/L Saline/L2
Behen is going to be a huge key to the Saline season. With a lot of offensive depth, being able to stay in-system will be important. Behen is going to be able to keep the Hornets in-system with her top-level instincts and poise. Already against top competition, Behen has been recording digs in the handful. Behen is an emotionally-charged player that is a leader on the floor and helps keep her teammates motivated.
77. Margaret Hilliard Margaret Hilliard 6'3" | S Cranbrook | 2024 State MI , S Cranbrook/Michigan Elite
As a 6’3” setter, Hilliard brings a lot of intangibles to the floor that you can’t teach. Her size and athleticism allow her to bring something different to the position. She’s got the ability to run a fast offense and has a nice touch, but also has the ability to call her own number and deliver a powerful shot. Hilliard moves very well for her size and is a proven force defensively as well.
