Some say that numbers do not lie and we have the numbers that are being reported by coaches across the state. California is one of the best states in the nation when it comes to this wonderful sport and we are here to highlight all of our amazing players. Let’s meet a few of the setters who are dishing dimes it on the court!
Brooklyn Kostoff [2024] 5-7 Setter (HS: Santa Margarita/Club: San Clemente/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Brooklyn is currently an unranked prospect in the 2024 class according to our Prep Dig California State Rankings, but she is on my watch list for sure. She plays at Santa Margarita High School and also plays for the San Clemente volleyball club program. Miss Kostoff is currently leading the entire state of California in assists during the young season that has just gotten underway. She has tallied 232 assists so far in 25 sets that her squad has played. Having just competed at Junior Nationals in Chicago this summer with her club squad, she is in midseason form already. She is not afraid to run offense from the back row or the front row and can move it around well. I love how her hands look like mirror images of each other during the contact of the ball. This will help her stay super consistent with her delivery to each location. In her second year on varsity, she is looking to lead her squad to greatness and so far she has gotten off to a fantastic start with leading their offense. They are a perfect 9-0 and are a front-runner in their conference. Stay tuned for more on Brooklyn as we watch the season unfold.
Calista Lowery [2026] 5-7 Setter (HS: Pacific Ridge/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Calista is currently an unranked prospect in the 2026 class according to our Prep Dig California State Rankings. She plays at Pacific Ridge High School. Miss Lowery is off to a very fast start this season and already has the third most assists in the state. The two sport stud also competes at the varsity level in lacrosse for Pacific Ridge. Having amassed 192 assists in only 18 sets means that she will likely stay at the top of the leaderboard if this trend continues. She has started on varsity ever since she came onto the scene last year as a freshman and produced greatly for her varsity squad. Being a two-sport letter-winner this early in her high school career clearly tells a story that she is not afraid of anything and has solid leadership skills. She is also a skilled server and has 10 aces on the young season as well. We will be watching her growth very closely to see if she can earn a spot in our state rankings. Stay tuned for more.
Sade Ilawole Sade Ilawole 5'3" | S Sierra Canyon | 2024 State CA [2024] 5-4 Setter (HS: Sierra Canyon/Club: Mizuno Long Beach/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Sade is currently ranked as the 30th best overall prospect in the 2024 class according to our Prep Dig California State Rankings. She has been starring for Sierra Canyon High School for the past few years and also plays club for Mizuno Long Beach. Miss Ilawole is someone who we have watched for the past few years and always brings top-notch play for any squad she suits up for. Do not sleep on her small size, as she will light you up in a hurry if you do. I love how she is able to move the ball around to all of her hitters so evenly. The ball comes out of her hands so fast to her middles that the defense cannot keep up. She has already tallied 187 assists on the year, which is 5th most on the young season. Sade is super fast all over the court and has leadership skills that can rival anyone. She is no stranger to high level play and has Sierra Canyon sitting at 8-3 on the year. Although some big names have graduated last season, having a leader like Miss Ilawole will get their young attackers ready for the playoffs in no time.
