Some say that numbers do not lie and we have the numbers that are being reported by coaches across the state. California is one of the best states in the nation when it comes to this wonderful sport and we are here to highlight all of our amazing players. Let’s meet a few of the setters who are dishing dimes it on the court!
Morgan Guardado [2025] 5-8 Setter (HS: Saugus/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Morgan is currently an unranked prospect in the 2025 class according to our Prep Dig California State Rankings. She is leading the offense at Saugus High School. Miss Guardado is currently leading the entire state of California in assists during the young season that has just gotten underway. She has tallied 308 assists so far in 35 sets that her squad has played. This is one big reason why her squad is sitting at a record of 15-0. They have taken the state of California by storm this season and are firing on all cylinders. She is putting the ball on a tee for the hitters to work with. The junior is dishing dimes all over the court. Even when the ball is passed a little out of system, her footwork is so fast to the ball that she is always in perfect posture to contact it well. I love how she holds her form well after the ball is released allowing her aim to be perfect. She is making every hitter look like an all-star right now.
Tatum Purdy Tatum Purdy 5'7" | S La Canada | 2024 State CA [2024] 5-7 Setter (HS: La Canada/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Tatum is currently an unranked prospect in the 2024 class according to our Prep Dig California State Rankings. She plays at La Canada High School. Miss Purdy is making it look easy when she moves the ball all around the court to all of her attackers. She currently sits at 277 assists on the year in only 31 sets played. Although the team has a record of 5-4, they are playing at a high level and are super competitive with every team. They are going to be very battle tested and ready for the playoffs in no time. Being a three-year varsity member means that Miss Purdy has the experience needed to lead with a warrior mindset. Defensively she is just as good in the right back zone digging everything that comes her way. Tatum is super fast all over the court, especially when she is transitioning from defense to her setter position. The balls of her feet never touch the floor when she is moving allowing her to be super bouncy. I like what I see from Tatum and will be watching her closely.
Aubrey Tobias [2025] 5-6 Setter (HS: Rancho Christian/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Aubrey is currently an unranked prospect in the 2025 class according to our Prep Dig California State Rankings. She has been starring for Rancho Christian High School this season. Although only 5’6”, Miss Tobias plays very big on the court for the Eagles. This young lady quietly has the fourth most assists in the state of California right now at 280. She is running a solid five-one offense and delivering some amazing sets to her hitters. She has a high volleyball IQ also and that is very apparent when you see that she knows who to get the ball to in certain situations. Her leadership is showing as she has her team at a record of 9-3 overall. They will be in great hands, literally. If this team is to go far this year in their conference, Miss Tobias will be the one to take them there.
