Colorado High School Preview: Thompson Valley

Thompson Valley looks to make a 3-peat State Championship team, having won the 4A State Championship in 2021 and 2022. Last season they went 27-2 on the season, with 25 of their matches only going 3 sets.     [player_tooltip player_id='247778' first='Ashlyn' last='Tafoya'] (5'10” S - 2025)   Ashlyn is a very crafty setter who runs a deceptive offense, not afraid to force the middle or against the grain to the pin. She is fearless in her game, making great defensive plays (recording 166 digs last season) and is an offensive threat with 108 kills in 2022. Tafoya finished a remarkable fall season with 862 was tabbed CHSAA Class 4A Player of the Year.    [player_tooltip player_id='735706' first='Tatum' last='Sharp'] (6'1” MB - 2025)   Tatum's shot selection is unmatched, knowing when to swing away or throw in a tip. This along with her quick arm are hard to stop, which is why she led the team in kills and hitting percentage last year with 317 kills and a .435 hitting percentage. She is readily available on the offensive and defensive side to make plays, notching 104 blocks in 2022. Her game doesn't end there as she also came in 2nd in aces last season for the Eagles with 52.    [player_tooltip player_id='352209' first='Avery' last='Gibbs'] (6'1” OH/MB – 2025)   Avery is extremely athletic and swings from the pin with a heavy arm, allowing her to power through blocks. She's got a great read and is able to find the openings on the court, putting her 2nd on the team for kills last season with 233. She will be continuing her volleyball career at UC Santa Barbara.    [player_tooltip player_id='735701' first='Kayla' last='Kauffman'] (6'1” MB – 2025)   Kayla is a strong, physical middle who is aggressive at the net and swings with a heavy arm. She recorded 166 kills and 86 blocks her sophomore season. Her ability to run in front and behind the setter make her a lethal offensive threat as she was 2nd for Thompson Valley in hitting percentage with .377. Kayla will be continuing her volleyball career at Grand Canyon University.    Chloe Duzenack (5'11” OH/OPP - 2024)   Chloe hits from the pin with a wide variety of shots, making her hard to read and an efficient attack, hitting over .300 last season. She was the 3rd kill leader for Thompson Valley and aided in defense with 55 blocks. Chloe will continue her volleyball career at University of South Carolina-Aiken next fall.
