The uber-athletic Johnson is the 64th-ranked player overall and in the top 15 liberos statewide in a loaded class of defenders. NPJ Seattle 17 found ways to play both 2023 Mackenzie Bravo Woo and Johnson together at times, essentially fielding two liberos at times. Johnson sets for her Auburn Mountainview team during the school season, and it shows when she steps in to set a second ball cleanly form the libero position. Her ability to cover ground and make plays is her strength, she covers tips and off-speed shots exceptionally well.
The six-foot middle from Fife just kept coming on as the season progressed, and she had a tremendous showing at the Emerald City Classic for PSVBA 17. Linden has the strength to attack the ball with pace from any position on the front line, and she can turn her attack to make sure she avoids the block. As the 58th ranked player overall, Linden slots into the updated rankings with middles Krista Kostoff Krista Kostoff 6’1″ | MB Eastlake | 2024 State WA (Sudden Impact) and Avery Kimball Avery Kimball 6’0″ | MB Tahoma | 2024 State WA (NPJ).
Martin is a powerful left-hander with excellent size on the right side. Her Seattle Juniors team was in a solid position with Martin blocking against the opposing teams best outside, and Martin continued to grow her offensive game throughout the season. At Nationals, Seattle Juniors moved her around as an attacker and Martin was able to score form a variety of spots showing off her versatility and ability to terminate. The Monroe senior is a player on an upward trajectory.
Highlights
The SIVA standout is a tremendous three-sport athlete, competing at a high level playing shortstop on the softball diamond and winning state championships in track and field. Flick-Williams displays the explosiveness that very few high school players have, it caught our eye immediately at the Pacific Northwest Qualifier. As an outside, she is a shutdown blocker, and scores consistently mixing in big swings with a sweet touch on tips and rolls. Headed to Western Washington, we expect her to have a big season for Bellevue and continue to rise in the rankings.
Kimball plays with an excellent “slow to fast” pace offensively, she waits for the set to develop then quickly gets her feet to the ball and cranks it to score. She also serves with a purpose and is willing to play defense in the backroom, NPJ looked tough with her at the service line. Kimball has terrific eye work as a blocker, she reads the setter and hitters, giving herself the best chance to put up a formidable wall.
