It's important to keep track of our former Kansas athletes as they continue their playing careers. It's also important to show some love to college programs that have recruited athletes featured on Prep Dig and subscribe to our website.

With those ideas in mind, I bring you another edition of “Prep Dig Alumni”. I scouted a KJCAA match between Coffeyville CC and Cowley College at W. S. Scott Auditorium on August 23.

Three former Kansas high school athletes stood out two sophomores and one freshman.

Valerie Luna, 5''8” MH/OH, Great Bend

Luna is flat-out impressive and starting as a freshman for Cowley. The former Great Bend Panther can sky with the best of them. She has a huge reach and solid blocking skills. Luna finished with five kills and two blocks in Cowley's three-set win over Coffeyville.

Sarah Madsen, 5'10”, OH/DS, Hiawatha

Madsen is a six-rotation player for Coffeyville. She can hammer a ball and get low on defense. She is quick for her size and has a nice serve. Madsen had a double-double with 11 kills and 12 digs in the loss to Cowley. She will be looking for a four-year college to call home after this season.

Alyss Apel, 5'2”, L, Augusta

Apel has quick feet and makes solid first passes of serve receptions. She will lay out for the hard-to-get dig. She played solid defense in the match against the Tiger, finishing with 19 digs. Apel is also a sophomore who would be a solid addition to an NAIA program after her time with the Ravens.
