I scouted two matches in Holton on August 29.
One of those was a hard-fought three-set victory by the Nemaha Central Thunder over the Jefferson West Lady Tigers.
Here is a look a members of Thunder Nation who posted solid numbers in the win.
Cali Honeyman Cali Honeyman 5'11" | OH Nemaha Central | 2025 State KS , 5’11”, OH, ‘25
Honeyman had a huge opening weekend, so I was notified on Twitter about her recent performance. It was fortuitous that I had already planned on being in Holton for the Thunder’s next match. Honeyman is a six-rotation player with a big reach, a big jump, and a fluid swing. In the match against Jeff West, she finished with 15 kills, 10 serve receptions, and nine digs, by my count. She saved her best set for crunch time in Nemaha’s 25-10 match-clinching set. Honeyman is an explosive hitter with natural skills who could be the poster child for what a heavy hitter looks like. She plays club ball with the Topeka Saints. She is a fringe DI prospect and a slam dunk DII athlete. MIAA coaches should start forming a line to recruit her.
Ashlyn Gudenkauf, 5’4”, L, ‘24
I enjoyed watching Gudenkauf play. She has long arms for a libero and makes consistent passes. She is sneaky quick and is a hustle player. She racked up 20 serve receptions and nine digs in the win over the Lady Tigers. She is a solid NAIA-level player if she decides she wants to play college ball. She plays club ball with the NEK Storm.
Reagan Gerety Reagan Gerety 6'0" | MB Nemaha Central | 2025 State KS , 6’0”, MH/OH, ‘25
Gerety is a physical hitter with excellent upper-body strength. She is built like a linebacker and has a solid net-front presence. She is quick for her size and can play reliable defense. Gerety had four kills, four digs, and two serve receptions. Her serve plays well at the next level. I would not hesitate to recommend her to NAIA and JUCO coaches. Gerety also plays club ball with the NEK Storm.
Zoey Sudbeck Zoey Sudbeck 5'7" | OH Nemaha Central | 2025 State KS , 5’7”, OH/MH, ‘25
An issue with Sudbeck is she is sneaky good and could easily get overlooked on this team. She is a front-row player who can jump out of the gym. She is not the tallest prospect on the team, she is not the most physically opposing, but if a defense does not respect her, she will eat a team alive. Sudbeck collected eight kills and two blocks for the Thunder. She is used as a front-row-only player in the Nemaha Central rotation.
Hallie Holthaus, 5’7”, S/DS, ‘25
Nemaha Central’s junior class is loaded. Holthaus is an interesting prospect. She can set, hit, and pass. In the match against Jeff West, she finished with nine digs and one kill. She is a solid communicator and her ability to play multiple positions increases her recruiting stock.
