Continue ReadingUnlike some other states listed in the PrepDig universe, we Hoosiers start our season VERY early. Just entering the third week of the season, we can start seeing the cream rise. Here are our top five, with two players per team that are making the difference.
#5: Zionsville (10-0)
A ten win run to start the season is a great way to give notice to the rest of 4A that the Eagles mean business this fall. A season-opening win over McCutcheon definitely set the tone early. Sophia Poehlein Sophia Poehlein 6'1" | OH Zionsville | 2024 State IN (’24, 6-1 OH, Bentley commit) is leading her squad physically, while pleasant surprise Josie Imes Josie Imes 5'10" | OH Zionsville | 2026 State IN (’26, 5-10 OH) is blowing up the double-double categories of kills and digs regularly. Both outsides together average nearly seven kills per set.
#4: La Porte (10-0)
The Slicers are the only team outside of central Indiana on this list, who also have carved out a ten match win streak to start the season. Wins against Penn, Bishop Dwenger and Crown Point were statement wins, but one detail stuck out to me—they haven’t dropped a set as of yet. It looks like the rest of The Region will be chasing La Porte for the foreseeable future. Springy and athletic pin attackers Emalee Maesch Emalee Maesch 5'8" | OH La Porte | 2024 State IN (’24, 5-7 OH) and Ava Holtz Ava Holtz 5'9" | OH Laporte | 2024 State IN (’24, 5-9 OH) average eight kills per set together, all while being primary passers.
#3: Cathedral (8-1)
Yes, there are other undefeated teams in 4A, but none have played the schedule (nor have the talent up and down the roster) that the Irish have. Taylor Lewis Taylor Lewis 6'1" | OH Cathedral | 2024 State #179 Nation IN (’24, 6-1 OH, Villanova commit) is the obvious leader here, but a pair of young and athletic middles in Josie Myers Josie Myers 6'2" | MB Cathedral | 2025 State IN (’25, 6-2 MB) and Taylor’s younger sister Avery Lewis Avery Lewis 6'0" | MB Cathedral | 2026 State IN (’26, 6-1 MB) are big and physical. Very few teams have the size in the middle to compete in October, and this pair is bigger than most.
#2: Noblesville (5-0)
I don’t remember the last time I mentioned the Millers as an undefeated successful volleyball program. They’ve always had individual talent, but not for a few seasons have I touched on the team as a whole doing as well as they are this fall. The Resmer sisters are running the show from the middle for the Millers, starting with Riley Resmer Riley Resmer 6'1" | MB Noblesville | 2024 State IN (’24, 6-0 MB, Harvard commit). Her speed, athleticism and overall leadership has been key early on in the season. Younger sister Reese Resmer Reese Resmer 6'0" | MB Noblesville | 2026 State IN (’26, 6-0 MB) might be the more dynamic of the two, and has the individual hardware (AAU MVP in ’22) to back it up.
#1: Hamilton Southeastern (7-0)
Was there a doubt? In a word, no. The Royals, like the Slicers, haven’t dropped a set yet either, but this schedule is a bit tougher. The epic beating they gave defending 3A champ Providence over the weekend was borderline cruel and unusual punishment, and there’s no end in sight for either the toughness of their schedule or the Royals’ rise to meet those challenges. Both outsides have committed to SEC schools, which is where the offense goes. Lauren Harden Lauren Harden 6'3" | OH Hamilton Southeastern | 2024 State #36 Nation IN (’24, 6-3 OH, Florida commit) and Lindsey Mangelson Lindsey Mangelson 6'2" | OH Hamilton Southeastern | 2025 State IN (’25, 6-2 OH, Mississippi State commit) have big arms, a ton of athleticism, and a relentless attitude once the whistle blows. Their matchup against volleyball power Brebeuf has this author going north again to watch.
