Prep Dig was in attendance on Friday and we got to see some really exciting prospects on the court during the day. We’re taking the next few days to recognize the players who had great performances and these liberos were as good as it gets on the backcourt:
Ella Boyd
Ella Boyd
Boyd led Bay Area Christian’s backcourt efforts and delivered a lot during the day. Her ball control was on point the entire time and she made some really impressive digs from the left back position. The libero also covered a lot of ground on serve-receive and remained accurate even when she had to deal with tough serves. Boyd was always alert on the backcourt and recovered several ball when covering her hitters and by chasing shanked passes or digs. She also brought some value from the service line, serving tough and getting opponents out of system.
Sara Sellers
Sara Sellers
A new face in Concordia Lutheran’s starting lineup at the beginning of the season, Sellers is getting the job done on the backcourt. Always very calm and focused, she thrives for her positioning, be it when playing defense or on serve-receive. Her first contact was always clean and she also displayed great reflexes and agility to chase tips and deflected shots. Besides handling her defensive duties well, Sellers also displayed great efficiency when she was asked to set in transition, delivering hittable balls to both pins.
Daniela Ramirez
Daniela Ramirez
Ramirez played with a lot of energy on Fort Bend Christian Academy’s backcourt. A team with formidable offensive options, the Eagles need accurate passing to get going and Ramirez helped deliver that with her efficient game. She was also excellent on defense, reacting well to go after balls and displaying tremendous ball control to keep them in play. The libero also played with a really light mood on the court and helped the team maintain good spirits through the good and bad moments they faced over the weekend.
Kraft was very consistent for Houston Christian on the backcourt, adding to the team’s volume while also making strong stops with her defensive plays. She was always very confident and efficient with her passing, keeping her team in system for most of the time. The libero also displayed good positioning and good technique to play defense, efficiently handling tips and hard-driven swings that went in her zone. Kraft was very accurate when she had to set too, stepping up and doing her best to place the hitters in a good position to score.
Highlights
Finley Wheeler
Finley Wheeler
Wheeler was one of the standouts in her John Cooper team, displaying some interesting skills and bringing a lot of energy from the backcourt. Her positioning on the left back position was always excellent and helped her make some big digs against heavy-hitting opposing outside hitters that went her way. Her passing was also very steady and on the rare occasions she would make a mistake, Wheeler would immediately shake it off and get back to her usual self on the very next play.
