One of the occurrences took place on September 19 in a two-set victory by Olathe Northwest over Olathe West.
It was the fastest-paced match and cleanest match I have witnessed this season. Missed serves were few and far between and the limited overpasses were on attacks that had no business being dug.
The talent on display was so good that I decided to break the match down into two reports one on each team’s stat monsters.
Here is a report on Raven standouts from Northwest’s 25-23, 27-25 victory over the Owls.
Skyler Pierce Skyler Pierce 6'3" | OH Olathe Northwest | 2024 State #4 Nation KS , 6’2”, OH, ‘24
Pierce is headed to the University of Nebraska and is currently the No. 1 ranked player in the state by Prep Dig. She never seems to disappoint when I watch her play and she filled up her stat sheet with seven kills, seven digs, and 11 serve receptions.
Jillian Huckabey Jillian Huckabey 6'0" | OH Olathe Northwest | 2024 State #74 Nation KS , 6’0”, OH, ‘24
Huckabey is the No. 2 ranked player in Kansas in the Class of 2024 and has committed to Florida International University. She was the most dominant player on the court during this match. She finished with a match-high 16 kills and added four serve receptions and three digs. She was really successful against the Owls in hitting out-of-system balls.
Lauren Roediger Lauren Roediger 6'2" | MB Olathe Northwest | 2024 State KS , 6’2”, MB, ‘24
This was the first time I had seen Roediger play. I can see how she could get overlooked at times on such a talented squad, but she is an elite player in her own right. Roediger collected seven kills in the match. She has a really impressive serve and had a team-high four aces against West. The middle blocker finished the match with four blocks and is committed to play for the Kansas City Roos.
Emmy Sher Emmy Sher 5'8" | DS/L Olathe Northwest | 2024 State KS , 5’8”, L/DS,‘24
She is part of the defensive glue that keeps the team in close matches. She finished with eight serve receptions and half a dozen digs Sher is committed to play for Indiana State once her high school career is complete.
Alex Klukvin Alex Klukvin 5'7" | DS/L Olathe Northwest | 2025 State KS , 5’7”, L/DS, ‘25
Klukvin is a slick libero who works hard reading serves. She finished tied for the team-high in serve receptions with 11 and added five digs.
