Our Ohio ‘Player of the Week’ is Stover, a junior outside hitter from Highland (Marengo, OH). She has had an incredible start to her third varsity season as she is averaging 7.1 k/s over their seven matches so far in 2023. A new career high was established last weekend as she terminated 48 kills in a tight 3-2 win over Jonathan Alder, which included an impressive .348 efficiency to complement a big defensive effort of 20 digs and four blocks. Since then, she has continued to impress opponents with her offensive dominance. Over three matches this past week, Stover terminated 61 kills as Highland swept all three of their opponents. With her week’s average of 6.8 k/s she was very effective with her opportunities as she hit .372. She also added 45 digs and 10 service aces over that span. Through the first part of her third varsity season, Stover has earned 765 kills for her career, which included 443 kills in 2022 alone. The Fighting Scots reached the regional semifinal round last season and will continue to rely on Stover’s arm in their attempt to repeat that success.

Marietta is perfect on the season at 8-1 a lot in part to Ritter’s offensive effort. The 5’9 junior middle is leading the Tigers offensively at over five kills per set. She is a savvy attacker with a big arm that can score in the middle and at the pins. She uses an aggressive lift and good net awareness to be able to swing through space or around the block. She had 11 kills in their 3-0 win over Linsly (WV) followed by a 4.0 k/s average over their recent non-league tournament action this past weekend. She is one of the best in terms of offensive efficiency as she has a season clip of .534. In their recent 2-0 win over Trimble, Ritter had nine kills on 11 swings without an error. She is well on her way to surpassing her 235 kills earned in 2022. On the defensive side, for her career, she is averaging 13.3 d/m.

Thompson was late on our rankings radar and her current ranking in our 2025 class is clearly not indicative of the athleticism and value she brings to the court. The 6’0 left side attacker is a flyer and is utilizing her skill set and physical tools to dominate opponents offensively. She is currently averaging 7.0 k/s for the season. Thompson has earned double-figure kills in every match this season, including two 30+ matches back-to-back earlier in the season. This past week she terminated 21 kills in both matches played as the Falcons defeated Logan Elm and Liberty Union. As a sophomore in 2022, Thompson had 366 kills while picking up 15.0 digs per match. She is an athlete and so far is proving to be a huge task for opponents trying to slow her down. Look for her ranking to jump significantly with the next update in the coming weeks.

Baldwin has been putting up some impressive numbers this season as the floor leader for Springfield. The Blue Devils are 6-1 to start the season as the 5’5 junior setter is averaging 10.5 assists per frame. Their most recent win was a 3-0 sweep over Ross as Baldwin had 27 assists and seven digs. Earlier in the week was when she made the biggest impact of her varsity career as Springfield took down a good Clay team 3-2 behind 65 assists from Baldwin. She also contributed 13 digs and three service aces in the victory. Although smaller in stature by comparison to most around her on the court, Baldwin has a big court presence given her ability to do a lot of things well. She has quality touch and location to get hitters into good situations and plays the rest of her role with efficiency in her preparation, reactions, and movements.

Sigman is one of Baldwin’s favorite options as she has been a key threat to the Blue Devil’s success so far this season. The Cincinnati commit is leading Springfield’s offense at 5.0 k/s set. Terminating double-digit kills in each match so far this season, she provided a massive effort in their 3-2 over Clay this past week with 36 kills and a .400 efficiency to go along with six blocks and 12 digs. Her previous career high for kills in a single match was set last season as she earned 33 kills in a 3-2 over Anthony Wayne late in the season. Sigman has been a major factor her entire career as she is quickly approaching 1,200 total kills over four varsity seasons with a single-season career best 432 kills in 2022. The 5’11 lefty opposite gets off the floor well and with good arm control can swing for pace and in using the space and edges of the effectively well to score. Defensively, she has a career average of 3.0 b/m.
