Prep Dig will be covering multiple matches every week and featuring the players that stand out the most for their performances over the course of the season, but we’ll also preview some matches that have the potential to be very interesting ones.
District play is underway around the state and some duels between undefeated teams are set to take place this week. Here’s one of them:
Wylie East vs. Wylie – September 12, 6:30 PM – @ Wylie East HS
Wylie East
The Wylie East Lady Raiders enter Tuesday’s matchup against their crosstown rivals in the middle of a nine-match winning streak. The team won all their first four district encounters without dropping a set and currently holds a 13-5 win record for the season. Juniors Julia Hicks Julia Hicks 5'10" | OH Wylie East | 2025 State TX (outside hitter) and Erika Hernandez Erika Hernandez 6'0" Wylie East | 2025 TX (middle) lead the team’s offense with 203 and 131 kills, respectively and will likely get on the ball a lot on Tuesday. Middles Dee McMillian (junior) and Addison Achilles (senior) have been in great form at the net, combining for 104 blocks – McMillian is also the team’s third-best hitter, with 105 kills. Junior libero Jordyn Wacaster Jordyn Wacaster 5'6" | DS/L Wylie East | 2025 State TX has been in excellent form on the backcourt, having registered 227 digs and 220 passes so far, while sophomore Jordan Turner Jordan Turner 5'6" | S Wylie East | 2026 State TX leads the Lady Raiders in assists (343) and aces (20).
Wylie
The Wylie Lady Pirates went undefeated in their first five district matches and emerged victorious in each of their last ten duels this season – their season record now stands at 15 wins and nine losses. Leading the team at the net are outside hitters Addison Hinckley (senior) and Karson Barclow (junior), who registered 188 and 180 kills respectively for the Lady Pirates thus far. Barclow also leads the team in passes with an impressive 451, while junior libero Sadie Jane Warren takes control on defense with 270 digs. Junior setter Taylor Johnson Taylor Johnson 5'7" | S Wylie | 2025 TX has also been critical for Wylie’s success this season, leading the team in assists (377) and aces (30). Freshman middle Aubrey Degrate is proving to be an interesting addition to Wylie this season as she ranks second in blocks (35), only behind senior middle Jordyn Agee (39), and fifth in kills (95).
