Here’s how it works: I’ll pop up a random number generator that includes the 10 players in the 2027 rankings. I’ll generate two numbers and the two that come up will be the ranking of the player. I’ll then spotlight those players in the article to help give them some more attention. I will then take six random numbers from the 50 Watch List prospects. Their number is where they are alphabetically in the Watch List.
Let’s see who has the lucky numbers for our first edition:
2. Marlie Smith Marlie Smith 5'10" | S Clarkston | 2027 State MI , S/OH Clarkston/Legacy
Smith has been one of, if not the most, productive freshmen in the state this fall. She plays with the intensity and intelligence of an upperclassman while being able to display a complete game. As a setter, she hits her spots and mixes up tempos well. As a hitter, she can finish from either pin and the back row with a variety of shots. As a defender, she shows great technique and poise.
8. Sophia Smith Sophia Smith 6'2" | RS Marian | 2027 State MI , RS Marian/Legacy
One of two steady freshmen hitters for Marian, Smith is showing she will be another talent the program can rely on for years to come. Along with her 149 kills, Smith has been a lead blocker for the Mustangs this fall with 56. However, her efforts to improve with her serving and serve receive have been important.
WL Blair Russow Blair Russow 5'5" | DS/L Bedford | 2027 MI , DS/L Bedford/Legacy
Russow is a libero that has a lot of good energy on the floor. She stays light on her feet and does a good job of anticipating the play. Russow squares up well and brings forward momentum on her passes, rarely being caught out of position, which allows her to accurately get the ball to the setter consistently.
WL Kylie Freeman Kylie Freeman 5'7" | DS/L Romeo | 2027 MI , DS/S Romeo
Freeman is playing setter for the Romeo JV team this fall and does a nice job of giving her hitters a good ball to attack. She’s got very good court awareness, which is why she’s also able to excel defensively. Freeman has good instincts in the back row and can make a quick sprawl or dive and still provide an accurate pass for her teammates to play.
WL Jordyn Jones Jordyn Jones 5'8" | OH Richmond | 2027 State MI , OH Richmond/Michigan Elite
Jones is a freshman that has quietly been amassing an impressive kill total for Richmond this fall. She’s an explosive player that is able to put a lot of pop on the ball. Jones can hit aggressive lines and place the ball well in the back row. She hasn’t been shy to take on a big workload and is proving she can come through for her team.
WL Brooklyn Rummler Brooklyn Rummler 6'2" | MB Stoney Creek | 2027 MI , MH Stoney Creek/Michigan Elite
The 6-foot freshman middle is giving Stoney Creek a lot of production this season and doing it all over the court. Her instincts at the net are great for a freshman and she uses her large wingspan well to finish points and impact opposing attacks. She’s also been able to contribute a little bit on the pins, as well as in the back row. The ceiling looks to be high for Rummler.
WL Elise Biermann Elise Biermann 5'10" | OH Eisenhower | 2027 MI , OH Eisenhower/Michigan Elite
Biermann has really grown a lot in recent weeks, becoming a consistent finisher for Eisenhower. The freshman really looked strong at Beast Of The East, where she put down nine kills and hit .400 against Grand Rapids Christian. She does a nice job of staying composed and not rushing her swings, while playing off the blocks well.
WL Josie Seets Josie Seets 6'0" | RS Clarkston | 2027 MI , RS Clarkston/Legacy
Seets is a steady contributor for Clarkston this fall. A 6-foot hitter with a long reach, Seets has been growing into her position and developing her offensive arsenal. She’s shown more confidence as the season has went on, which has led to more impactful kills and blocks at the net. Seets is also improving as an overall defender, giving the Wolves a talent it can continue to build with for years to come.
