Jaelyn Roettger
Roettger caught my eye at the Class AA Showcase as a solid role player. As a right side she puts up a big block alongside Julia Bigalke Julia Bigalke 6’0″ | MB Concordia Academy | 2025 State MN . She also takes a really nice angle to swing at the ball and score. Meanwhile senior, Ivy Newville, is approaching 500 career kills and 100 career blocks as the Beacons look for a deep postseason run. Junior, Julia Bigalke Julia Bigalke 6’0″ | MB Concordia Academy | 2025 State MN , can also score from anywhere on the net and packs a powerful punch with her swing.
Addison Condon
Addison Condon
Condon is a fun young player to watch because she just knows how to find her way through a block. They may not have all the height but WEM has a pair of deadly pin hitters with Condon and senior, Claire Bohlen. Junior, Ashlyn Pelant, orchestrates the offense and keeps all her weapons involved including senior middle, Alayna Atherton.
Belle Plaine is not a team to overlook. The Tigers are powereed by junior right side hitter, Rachel Johnson Rachel Johnson 5’9″ | RS Belle Plaine | 2025 State MN . She makes smart plays while staying aggressive. She is a huge force at the net and their go-to attacker. The Tigers ended up 2nd in conference play behind Mayer Lutheran. Johnson along with seniors, Lacey Croft and Paige Ackerman Paige Ackerman 5’10” | OH Belle Plaine | 2024 State MN , have been the main attackers for the Tigers who could end up in a battle with Southwest Christian in Section Semifinals on Halloween.
Highlights
Legacy Christian Academy
The Lions could be one of the dark horse teams this year. They are 17-11 this year and they’ve got some really interesting pieces to their squad that could push them into a deep postseason run. They have a solid 1st contact with senior libero, Brielle Cimbura Brielle Cimbura 5'4" | DS/L Legacy Christian Academy | 2024 State MN . Then freshman, Rilee Enns Rilee Enns 5'8" | S Legacy Christian Academy | 2027 State MN , takes the second contact and distributes it to a number of different weapons. Her most obvious weapons are junior outsides, Addison Finney, or Mary Fields. Senior middle, Hannah Buchman, has also found a lot of success at the net. However, I think the two players that could be real game changers are senior middle, Anna Stromberg, and junior right side, Delaney Boone. Stromberg is a big presence at the net and when she and Boone work together they create a smart and aggressive defense that’s hard to beat.
Zumbrota-Mazeppa
Another dark horse includes the Cougars of Zumbrota-Mazeppa. This is an interesting squad because I was expecting to see Megan Jasperson Megan Jasperson 5'7" | DS/L Zumbrota Mazeppa | 2024 State MN in the role of Libero and instead I saw her playing as a 6 rotation pin. I LOVE it when a player defies over-specialization and steps in to do whatever is needed for her team. And Jasperson does just that. She is an explosive jumper and can fly. Opposite her, you can find junior, Ella Chandler Ella Chandler 5'11" | OH Zumbrota-Mazeppa | 2025 State MN who has more height and can get off the floor quickly to terminate. The Cougars will take on Lake City on Thursday and have to work their way through a section including Caledonia and Chatfield.
