This series of articles will showcase those sophomore volleyball players who have been making a name for themselves in the varsity ranks. Let’s meet a few of the players who are showing that they are ready for the big stage.
Sophia Willett [2026] 5-9 Outside (HS: Christian/Club: Coast/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Sophia is currently an unranked prospect in the 2026 class according to our Prep Dig California State Rankings, but is now on my watch list. Miss Willett stars for Christian High School and also plays for the nationally recognized Coast volleyball club. Sophia stepped into a major role this year on her school squad compared to last year. Now as more of a starring role, she has almost doubled her kill total from her freshman season. As of today, she currently has the second most kills amongst all sophomores in the state of California. As an attacker she possesses the ability to swing hard around or through a block. This power is also demonstrated as she tools the block out of bounds for many kills by adding an extra power with how she crunches her abs as she makes contact. Sophia also uses off-speed shots very well to keep the defense honest and constantly guessing what is coming next from her strong arm. Even though she might not be the prototypical six foot size compared to others in her position, she plays very big above the net and has impeccable timing with her attack. We will be watching her progress in her craft closely.
Audrey Flanagan Audrey Flanagan 6'2" | OH Mira Costa | 2026 State CA [2026] 6-2 Outside (HS: Mira Costa/Club: SCVC/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Audrey is currently ranked as the 2nd best overall prospect in the 2026 Class according to our Prep Dig California State Rankings. She plays volleyball at Mira Costa High School and club for Southern California Volleyball Club . We have written about her a few times now and every adjective has been totally warranted. She now has the fourth most kills by all sophomores across the state of Cali. Her tally of 377 kills on a hitting percentage of .293 is astounding as she is helping to lead one of the best high school teams in the country. Her length, power, and ability to move gracefully around the court is what has most scouts intrigued by what she can be in the future. For now, we know exactly who she is and will love continuing to cover her amazing skill set. If you have not seen her play yet, I strongly encourage you to give her a solid look. You will not be disappointed. Her ability to speed up her footwork with fast paced tempo pins sets and score at-will from the back row with designed play-sets make for one enjoyable player to watch.
Ila Rose [2026] 5-9 Outside (HS: Centennial/Club: Bakersfield/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Ila is currently an unranked prospect in the 2026 class according to our Prep Dig California State Rankings, but is on my watch list and should have no problem making the list when I update it in a few weeks. Miss Rose has been covered by us a few times now that we have seen her play in person. She is one of the kill leaders in the state of California amongst sophomores and when you watch her play you will see why. She has an uncanny ability to find holes in the defense wherever she attacks the ball from. Most do not know how hard it is to score from the left side pin while being a lefty, but Ila makes it look extremely simple. She has perfect timing by allowing the ball to cross all the way over to her left shoulder and still is able to swing line or angle if she wants. What I love is how her school team trusts her in crucial situations and she always rises up to the challenge. This young lady has a cannon and if the block is not there, she will put a hole in the floor with her bombs. Write her name down if you want a true point scorer for your program.
