<p>Leading up to the October 22 sub-state tournaments, I will look at players from each division who could impact a sub-state tournament and lead their team to the state tournament.</p>

<p>This is the third sub-state preview report and focuses on Class 2A prospects who hope to qualify for the state tournament in Dodge City.</p>

<p><strong>Tayla Sampson</strong>, 5'11”, OH, Sedgwick, ‘24</p>

<p>Sampson is a talented under-the-radar prospect. She leads the Cardinals with 483 kills and unofficially leads all attackers in Class 2A in kills. The Cardinals own a 33-1 record and will be the No. 1 see in the Hillsboro sub-state.</p>

<p><strong>Carlie Martin</strong>, 5'8”, OH, Meade, ‘24</p>

<p>Martin can jump with the best of them. She leads Meade in kills with 284 and she also has 323 digs, proving that she can play six rotations. With a record of 22-9, Meade will be the No. 2 seed in the Syracuse sub-state. Hoxie (27-3) projects to be the No. 1 seed.</p>

<p><strong>Ava Potter</strong>, 6'0”, OH, Pleasant Ridge, ‘24</p>

<p>Potter is the top hitter for the Pleasant Ridge Rams. She has 284 kills in 66 sets played which already surpasses her kill total from her junior season. Pleasant Ridge is playing the Jefferson County North sub-state which features four teams with 20-plus wins.</p>

<p><strong>Baylie Tharman</strong>, 5'5”, L/DS, Wabaunsee, ‘24</p>

<p>Tharman has 268 digs for the Wabaunsee Chargers. She also has collected 310 serve receptions. The Chargers(16-16) are battling for the No. 4 seed in the sub-state in which they are hosting.</p>

<p><strong>Ella Lawless, </strong>5'5”, OH/DS, Belle Plaine, ‘25</p>

<p>Lawless can chip in and play at just about any position. She has 218 digs, 217 serve receptions, 72 kills, and 30 assists. Belle Plaine (15-14) is playing in the Cedar Vale-Dexter sub-state and projects as a top-four seed.</p>

<p><strong>Brin Hecker</strong>, 5'8”, OH/MB, Ell-Saline, ‘24</p>

<p>Hecker is a versatile player for the Cardinals. She has 165 assists, 109 kills, and 133 digs. Ell-Saline will hope to play spoiler in the Sterling sub-state. At 19-14, Ell-Saline is projected to be the No. 3 seed behind Inman (30-4) and Ellinwood (24-6). </p>

<p>In 61 sets played, Koenigsman has collected 180 kills, 226 digs, and 234 serve receptions. The Monarchs (14-16) project to be the No. 4 or 5 seed heading into the Republic County sub-state. Smith Center with a record of 28-4 and Bennington with a 30-5 record are the favorites to win that sub-state grouping.</p>

<p>Overman is a young talent for the Panthers. She has 162 kills in 74 sets played so far in her sophomore season. Colgan (18-9) will be hosting a sub-state and is currently projected as the No. 2 seed behind Jayhawk-Linn who has a record of 22-8.</p>
