CCA will face North Scott Wednesday for a right to play for a state championship on Thursday.
Here’s a look at some players that stood out during Monday’s match:
It’s been a joy watching Beck develop as a volleyball player during the last few years. The Drake commitment plays with much more confidence than when she was younger and is a team leader. Her skills are undeniable. She’s a tall, athletic performer with agility and a great feel for the game. Her swing is mighty and her block a problem for opponents. She pounded out 21 kills in this match.
Programs at the next level are sleeping on Berkland. She’s a wall with excellent skills and understanding of the game. She controls the match from the back row with her ability to calm incoming pace and turn the attack around into usable passes. CCA stays in system so well because of Berkland, who managed 22 digs in this match. She can definitely help plenty of college programs, so don’t delay any longer.
Lower is one of the better sophomore basketball and volleyball players in the state. The sophomore succeeds with high-level athleticism. She can leap with the best of them and swing with power. She hits well from the outside but can also do damage in the middle from the front or back. She is one of the better back-row performers on the team and is sound fundamentally. She produced eight kills and 14 digs in this short three-setter.

It was my first time seeing CCA this season after having watched the Clippers a whole lot the last two years. Quirk of this year’s schedule for me. Anyway, I was impressed with Sherman in my first in-person viewing of her game. She’s a confidence sophomore with a complete skill set that appears to only be scratching the surface of what she can be. She looks like she can handle the right side but has the versatility to play along the net and in the back row.
I may have watched Henderson play more volleyball than anyone else on CCA’s roster. That includes a lot of club action. The sophomore steadily is improving. Sometimes that can be tough to see with a player that’s advanced at a young age. What you witness with Henderson is her developing her skills and becoming a smarter on-court performer. Her sets have been crisp and getting crisper. She shows a good feel for putting it on the money for her hitters with an understanding of where they like the ball.

Sutcliffe stood out after the first few minutes of watching Norwalk play for the first time in person. The Missouri Western State commitment stands out most as an outside hitter but she’s a well-rounded volleyball player with good leadership skills. She piled up 15 digs and seven kills in this match. She was a big reason why Norwalk reached the state tournament.
I can’t find Dehmer having committed to a college for volleyball, which is kind of surprising. She recorded a team-high 20 digs in this match and finished her fine senior season with 452. She’s very quick in the back with sharp lateral movement and instincts. She’s rarely out of position and understands how to turn around strong attacks into precise passes. She can help a college program, no doubt.
