But, let’s look at six setters that you need to watch in these Regional Final match-ups on Saturday, October 21st because they are the reason for their attacker’s many successes.
Ava Patchett Ava Patchett 5'7" | DS/L Fox Valley Lutheran | 2025 State WI and Molly Bixby – Fox Valley Lutheran
I remember Patchett really caught my eye as a setter at the Beast of the Northeast last fall. She always does such a nice job of moving the ball around really well and giving her attackers many opportunities to terminate. This junior setting duo can dish out the sets and bring the heat from the service line. Bixby has a wicked arm that’s already tallied 65 aces this season. They are both tremendous defenders as well with close to 300 digs as a pair this season. I’d love to see these two race because they are both so quick to the second ball. They will have a number of weapons at their disposal including Emma Nilson Emma Nilson 6'1" | MB Fox Valley Lutheran | 2024 State WI and Annalise Patchett Annalise Patchett 6'0" | OH Fox Valley Lutheran | 2024 State WI when they defend their homecourt against Luxemburg-Casco in order to move on in the Division 2 bracket.
Hernandez is more than a distributor for the Trojans. She can and will serve an opposing team right off the court. Hernandez is really athletic and moves extremely well across the court. She makes a huge impact in a variety of ways. Her stats this season can attest to that. Hernandez currently has 580 assists, 169 digs, 133 kills, and 47 aces. In fact she just had a season high 45 assists just over a week ago against Notre Dame Academy. Her success goes hand in hand with her biggest weapon, Morgan Stewart Morgan Stewart 6’1″ | OH Green Bay Southwest | 2025 State WI , who has almost 500 kills this season. GB Southwest will be heading to Kaukauna where I could see this match going to 5 sets.
On the other side of the net from Hernandez you will find her club teammate, Madison Tripp Madison Tripp 5’9″ | S Kaukauna | 2025 State WI . Tripp has this way of being every where on the court and gets her hands on every second contact. Tripp has also put up some impressive numbers so far this season including 769 assists, 200 digs, and 61 aces. She’s got a a plethora of weapons including seniors Addison Albrecht Addison Albrecht 5’10” | OH Kaukauna | 2024 State WI and Kayla Van Eyck Kayla Van Eyck RS Kaukauna | 2024 State WI . They will battle GB Southwest for a chance to move in the Division 1 tournament.
Highlights
Borys has a soft touch on the ball and quick hands. Her set location is spot on and she can really put some pace on the ball to get in in her pin’s hands before a block knows whats coming. She’s delivered 848 assists so far this season along with 150 digs and 50 aces. Borys had a career high 47 assists against GB Southwest not too long ago. While she is putting up some impressive numbers she will have a challenge against the Division 2 reigning champs, Xavier on Saturday.
Pleuss has soft hands for delivery to her main weapons, Addyson King and Braelyn Lewis. She can also make a big impact from the service line. In fact she is boasting 85 aces so far this season to go along with her 684 assists and 228 digs. I know I’d want a server like Pleuss headed to the endline in a big match when my team needs a boost. They will take on the #1 seed in their subsection, Laconia, in order to move on in the Division 3 playoffs.
