64 Teams remain playing in the state of Michigan across 4 divisions. Only 32 will make it to Tuesday. From the Rounds of 32 to the Sweet 16s, we have made it to the critical parts of the season where it is every woman for themselves.
Here are 16 of the top players to watch in Thursday’s Sweet 16 match-ups across Michigan.

One of the biggest names to come out of the freshman class this season, Mallory Woiteshek Mallory Woiteshek 6'3" | OH Grand Haven | 2027 State MI is the real deal. In her first 3 matches in the post-season, Woiteshek has garnered over 40 kills in sweeping fashion. Her size and physicality offers this team a lot of options to run a variety of plays.
Elana Erickson Elana Erickson 5'10" | OH Forest Hills Northern | 2024 State #79 Nation MI – Forest Hills Northern
She’s not one of the front runners for Miss Volleyball 2023 for nothing. It’s also to no wonder why Elana Erickson Elana Erickson 5'10" | OH Forest Hills Northern | 2024 State #79 Nation MI is the top rated player in the 2024 class in Michigan. With an upset over the top ranked team in the state, Hudsonville, this team is very much on their way to another Final Four appearance behind the play of Erickson.
Jordyn Hughes Jordyn Hughes 6'0" | MB Portage North | 2025 State MI – Portage Northern
You better hope the gym has a high ceiling, because Jordyn Hughes Jordyn Hughes 6'0" | MB Portage North | 2025 State MI will jump right out of it! Nobody flies quite as high as this one. Her attacking efficiency alongside her blocking does this team wonders.
Mallory McFarlane Mallory McFarlane 5'7" | DS/L Saline | 2025 State MI – Saline
A year ago we got our first taste of this libero in the State Semifinals. A year later, she’s taken over the off-colored jersey and has been running away with the job. And with the route that Saline has been given this post-season, it makes Mallory McFarlane Mallory McFarlane 5'7" | DS/L Saline | 2025 State MI ‘s play even more impressive. McFarlane is entering the Sweet 16 rounds averaging over 4 digs per set and passing a 2.2 in the post-season.
Brooke Tietz – Grand Rapids West Catholic
The West side of the state is just oozing with talent. This is a middle that can be a game-changer for Grand Rapids West Catholic in their hopes to make a deep run. Brooke Tietz has a lightning rod for an arm and can score with ease. Her transition game is quite commendable given how involved of a blocker she is. Tietz will be a big time player in tonight’s match.
Madison Geer Madison Geer 5'9" | OH Frankenmuth | 2026 State MI – Frankenmuth
While big sis, Audrey Geer Audrey Geer 5'10" | OH Frankenmuth | 2024 State MI (Marshall), may get the bulk of the attention. Drew Glaser Drew Glaser 6'1" | OH Edwardsburg | 2024 State MI – Edwardsburg
We may see quite a few unfamiliar faces in Kellogg Arena this season, and Edwardsburg is a team who I have money on. Behind the mighty south paw of Drew Glaser Drew Glaser 6'1" | OH Edwardsburg | 2024 State MI , this team could soar to great heights. In the front court out of 3, out of 5, or even from the back court; Glaser is one of the most efficient pin attackers in the tournament. Her overall play keeps Edwardsburg balanced, but her offense is the real threat.
Maddy Vaara – Ludington
Yet again, another West side product. Maddy Vaara could lead the Orioles to the next rounds of the MHSAA tournament. While a left side attacker by nature, the versatility of Vaara’s attacking prowess allows this team to spread the ball anywhere around the court. Vaara can hit a wicked ball up the middle of the court that is disguised quite nicely.
Madeline Dettling Madeline Dettling 6'0" | OH SMCC | 2026 State MI – St. Mary’s Catholic Central
When we talk about SMCC, a lot of the attention remains on the power duo of Jessica Costlow Jessica Costlow 5'11" | OH SMCC | 2025 State #142 Nation MI (Toledo) and McKenna Payne McKenna Payne 5'7" | DS/L SMCC | 2025 State #105 Nation MI (Utah), but let’s bring Madeline Dettling Madeline Dettling 6'0" | OH SMCC | 2026 State MI into the conversation. Dettling has been having a breakout season with the Kestrels. After a nice debut with the team last year, she was struggling through injuries, so we didn’t really get to see what she was all about. Fast forward to now, Dettling has the potential to be the game-altering piece that SMCC has been looking for on the outside.

No knee, who dis? While an ACL injury early on in the basketball season may have had Hannah Baker Hannah Baker 6'0" | MB Lenawee Christian | 2024 State MI sidelined for the early goings of the volleyball season, she is back and BETTER THAN EVER! There’s a reason Lenawee Christian’s stock shot up to No. 1 when it did, it was the return of Baker. Gabby Martinez – Marlette
