Driving the ball down like Whitney Fleming Whitney Fleming 5'9" | OH Valley Christian | 2027 CA is typically the fastest way for a team to score a point. Her armswing certainly suggests that even in the early days of CIF matches. Additionally, she takes an angled approach that starts about 18 feet from the net. This approach is on an angle from the left or the right. While lined up on the court, Fleming will also hit from the middle. This happens as she is positioned on the left and the setter calls for an inside set.
Elizabeth Joo | 2024 | DS/L | Valley Christian High School
Elizabeth Joo turns body and faces the target after moving to pass. This confirmation to her target does consistently occur. Additionally, she will shuffle her feet, both big and small shuffles, after contact. To confirm, Joo works hard to get her feet to the ball and pass in the midline of her body. Additionally, she does have just a little bit extra of a push off to react to a late moving serve or attack. When setting a second contact, she will sometimes make the tough set against the flow of the play.
Ava Hassanein | 5’6″ | 2025 | L/DS | Palos Verdes High School
With her arms extended, Ava Hassanein leans back and keeps her weight back as a serve is hit to her. She also really gets her hips very low when passing a low serve relative to her position on the court. There seems to be little to no fatigue with her game as she repeatedly digs up serves. Additionally, she rotates her hips often for a ball that is served outside of her body. When charging in for a short serve, Hassanein maintains balance and control.
Kayla Leone | 5’4″ | 2026 | DS | Palos Verdes High School
The movement, specifically the flexibility, of the game of Kayla Leone is something that stands out. Then, to no surprise she digs many attacks at or above her shoulders. Her flexibility really stands out when she moves quickly for an offspeed attack. As she might then need to abruptly stop, Leone can reach and snag the ball out of the air. Additionally, she covers that court space running in with a quick first step.
Keira Otto | 5’7″ | 2027 | S | Palos Verdes High School
With great instincts at the net, Keira Otto seems to know when to make the first contact at the net. She is player that shows an ability to be an all around volleyball athlete. As she further utilizes her athleticism, that awareness and understanding of defensive range guides her ambition and communication to make plays. Specifically, she is alert and moves decisively for an offspeed attack. Otto has excellent range within a full sphere to play a ball anywhere around her body.
