Surviving the bi-district round was the first step for teams that dream about winning the state title in a few weeks and the programs that managed to do it will now feature in some exciting duels in the area round over the next few days.
Prep Dig will be around, covering as many matches as possible, but we’ll also point out some duels that deserve some special attention. This is one of them:
Barbers Hill vs. Foster – Thursday, November 2, at 6:00 – @ South Houston HS
Barbers Hill
The Barbers Hill Eagles were the undefeated champions of Division 5A – District 17 with a campaign of 14 victories. The team, that eliminated La Porte in the bi-district round, has only seven losses in 46 matches this season. Senior setter Peyton Fadal Peyton Fadal 5'9" | S Barbers Hill | 2024 State TX (1,143 assists, 236 digs, 99 kills, 56 aces) is the technical and mental leader of the team and is having an extremely productive season. Two other seniors, middle Chloe Morgan Chloe Morgan 6'0" | MB Barbers Hill | 2024 State TX (429 kills, 136 blocks) and libero Mia Rivers Mia Rivers 5'6" | DS/L Barbers Hill | 2024 TX (500 digs, 611 passes), are leading the team at the net and the backcourt respectively. The Eagles are also getting production from junior right side Kynlea Gibbs Kynlea Gibbs 6'0" | RS Barbers Hill | 2025 TX (375 kills) and senior outside hitter Malia Martinez (168 kills, 497 passes, 282 digs).
Foster
The Foster Falcons from Richmond finished second in Division 5A – District 20 with 12 wins and two losses. The three-set victory over Madison in the bi-district round elevated the team’s season win record to 31-10. Senior middle Jackie Onyechi Jackie Onyechi 6'0" | MB Foster | 2024 State TX (299 kills, 82 blocks) has been huge for Foster at the net while junior outside hitter Brooke Barnes (252 kills, 186 digs) is their second-best scorer – sophomore outside hitter Emerson Lechler recently returned from injury and is another strong offensive player. The Falcons also have a pair of talented setters in senior Brinleigh Davis Brinleigh Davis 5'9" | S Richmond Foster | 2024 TX (735 assists, 192 digs) and sophomore Reagan Knipling (128 assists, 169 kills). The backcourt is the territory of senior libero Eden Fairfield (401 digs, 49 aces) and senior defensive specialist Bailey Lechler (262 digs, 44 aces).
