In their senior year, they have more experience and talent than they know what to do with and share it with us unconditionally. It is a pleasure to witness their efforts following their last season of high school volleyball. There were only four seniors attending the expo in Dallas so let’s look at who they are and what their skills are.
Carmen Brown
Brown is a 5’8″ outside hitter from Cedar Hill High School. She is quick, has great hops, and has a wicked swing. It is hard to tell from my angle exactly how high she is jumping, but she jumps so very high! It was amazing to watch her hit it off the block or just power it right through one. She is great at digging, hitting, serving, or setting another hitter. She can play 6 rotations and is just so athletic. After several years of high school volleyball, she has accumulated so much experiential data that she seems years older than other athletes on the court. She really uses that knowledge to work through some difficult situations on the court. She has those spastic athletic reflexes that make her so hard to beat at the net. Impressive athlete.
Joei Goodwin
Goodwin is a 5’9″ right-side hitter from Fossil Ridge High School. Goodwin has a wicked cross-court shot that is effective most of the time she uses it. She is extremely smart and useful in the game and can cover almost any position. She is serious and focused but can still motivate her team. She has a great attitude and is great at digging up balls or putting up a block. She can set other hitters if needed also.
Rachel Hull
Hull is a 5’4″ setter from Southwest Christian High School. Hull is a very versatile athlete. She is on time to the ball and sets with speed and accuracy. She has very soft hands and great control of the ball. She has good range and learns quickly what her hitters prefer. She is great at serving, receiving, and she can hit accurately as well. She can put up a wall of a block and is always where she is needed. She is a very quick athlete.
Miller is a 5’4″ DS/L from Southwest Christian High School. Miller is so fast on her feet. She gets her hands under the ball with regularity and gets it to her setter. She already knows where the ball is going before it gets there and is waiting ready to receive it when it arrives. She was a joy to watch and always had a smile on her face. It is easy to see that she truly enjoys the game and it is obvious she has put the work in to excel.
