2023 PD Illinois Top 250: The Towers in the Middle

Once again, the Illinois stop proved to be one for the books. Elite talent on display, fun atmosphere and a lot of great volleyball throughout the day.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Let's kick off who shined with the top liberos at this year's Illinois Top 250.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='476375' first='Martyna' last='Sowiak'] - Pipeline</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>One of the strongest middles in the gym, [player_tooltip player_id='476375' first='Martyna' last='Sowiak'] not only can elevate at a high level but she terminates. She can use a really strong attack on front of the setter, nearly taking the ball before it's even in her setters hands. That's how quick she's on top of it. I was impressed with her speed of the game and how quick she was able to adjust mid-flight. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='326069' first='Dunja' last='Savic'] - [program_tooltip program_id='431567' first='Adversity' last='']</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Not only did this player show a lot of prowess as an attacker but she is a very skilled blocker. Dunja Savis is imposing to say the least. As a blocker, her eye sequencing was a notch above the rest. She leaves little to no room for attackers to find space and it caused a lot of fits throughout competition play. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Kyle Mitchell - Michio </h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Kyle Mitchell knows how to take up a lot of air space at the net. A respectable blocker, Mitchell not only can create a wall at the net but she does quite well in her transition game. If the setter can put the ball high enough, she was on top of it and crushing it. She has a lot of wingspan that can be dangerous to utilize.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='447995' first='Harmonee' last='Wenger'] - Elevate (WI)</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>This performer could be quite the utility player. During individual sessions, [player_tooltip player_id='447995' first='Harmonee' last='Wenger'] was hitting everywhere. Up the middle, on the pins, maybe through the back court zones, she knows how to terminate. In 6 on 6 action, she was primarily seen in the middle and rocking it. A tour de force attacking, she puts up a really solid block to go along.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
