This has been a huge year for the class of 2025. After major club seasons, the floodgates have opened for recruiting to begin. With 21 of our top 30 ranked players committed, this has been a pretty crazy few months. On top of that, this junior class showed out during the high school season.
With all of the excitement from 2023 coming to a close, let’s take a look at the top 5 outside hitters in the rankings.
No. 2 Navea Gauthier Navea Gauthier 6'1" | OH Shelby | 2025 State #56 Nation MI – Shelby/FaR Out (Ohio State)
By time this player’s high school career comes to a close, Navea Gauthier Navea Gauthier 6'1" | OH Shelby | 2025 State #56 Nation MI may be one of the most prolific scorers Michigan has ever seen. This was another banner year for the future Buckeye. After coming close last year, Gauthier posted over 1,000 kills this season. Yes, 1,000 kills in A SINGLE SEASON! With her 987 last fall, Gauthier had the fourth most kills in a single season. Now, she has herself cemented at third and fifth most all time after posting 1,034 this season. Just behind 2015’s Sarah Tabit and 2005’s Jenna Lange (Welke).
After winning a National Championship and finishing Top 5 at AAU Nationals with FaR Out, Gauthier committed to play for the Ohio State Buckeyes. The future Buckeye was also named the 2023 Division 3 Player of the Year.
No. 5 Isabelle Busignani Isabelle Busignani 6'1" | OH Marian | 2025 State #73 Nation MI – Marian/Michigan Elite (Cincinnati)
Already, going into her junior year of high school ball, Isabelle Busignani Isabelle Busignani 6'1" | OH Marian | 2025 State #73 Nation MI had led her teams to 2 straight state titles and a national title game in 16 Open. This a player that knows how to ball. This fall was another incredible showcase for “The Bus” as they call her. After being the young pup on this Marian squad for the last two years, this was Busignani’s time to shine as not only the leader on the court but off the court as well. With seven freshman on the roster, Busignani did a lot of heavy lifting to Marian’s come-from-behind Catholic League title and an Elite 8 finish this season.
After leading Michigan Elite 16 Mizuno to a 16 Open National Championship Match in June, Busignani ended her summer with the announcement that she’ll be pursuing her collegiate career with the Cincinnati Bearcats. This fall, Busignani was named MaxPrep’s Michigan Player of the Year as well.
No. 9 Jessica Costlow Jessica Costlow 5'11" | OH SMCC | 2025 State #142 Nation MI – SMCC/Michigan Elite (Toledo)
Right alongside Busignani in club, Jessica Costlow Jessica Costlow 5'11" | OH SMCC | 2025 State #142 Nation MI and her were the dynamic 1-2 punches for Michigan Elite. Leading all the way to a National Title game, Costlow was riding a real great wave of momentum coming into the fall. Leading the charge for one of the top perennial programs in Division 3, Costlow shined all throughout the fall as the Kestrel’s go-to attacker. This is a player that can play just about any position at such a high level, and it was something that came in handy much throughout the fall.
On the hells of the MHSAA Post-Season, Costlow announced that in the fall of 2025 she’ll be heading just down the road to play her collegiate ball at the University of Toledo! A huge pick-up for the Rockets.
No. 11 Marie Laurio Marie Laurio 5'10" | OH Saline | 2025 State #147 Nation MI – Saline/Legacy (Syracuse)
2023 was the year we got see what Marie Laurio Marie Laurio 5'10" | OH Saline | 2025 State #147 Nation MI was really made out of. With an impeccable club season, we saw Laurio become one of the main cogs in Legacy 16-1’s powerhouse team. A six rotation player with a lot of pop to her game both offensive and defensively, Laurio did so many good things for that team, leading to a Top 5 finish in 16 Open at AAUs. This fall with Saline, Laurio continued to show off her prowess. Again, the main go-to outlet, she proved to be able to take over matches at any given time.
Right before the start of her high school campaign, Laurio announced her commitment to the Syracuse University. This not only is a HUGE get for the Orange’s but further prove the ACC’s growth in the collegiate volleyball space.
No. 17 Cambria Gaier Cambria Gaier 5'11" | OH Caledonia | 2025 State MI – Caledonia/FaR Out (South Alabama)
Like many of the other outsides on this list, Cambria Gaier Cambria Gaier 5'11" | OH Caledonia | 2025 State MI tore it up in 2023. With 16 Black at FaR Out, Gaier cemented herself as one of the top guns in the club. After pacing the way to a Top Five finish in 16 Premier at AAU Nationals, Gaier was named an All-American. Fast forward to this fall, Gaier led Caledonia through the utter gauntlet that is the greater Grand Rapids scene of volleyball. This kid is complete six rotation player with not only a great range of shots but a really consistent first contact as well.
In the midst of all of the chaos that is the high school season, Gaier announced that she’ll be joining fellow FaR Out teammate Elyse Heffner Elyse Heffner 6'1" | MB Traverse City Central | 2025 State MI and committed to South Alabama University to play under former FaR Out coach, HC Jesse Ortiz.
