This can be a big year for plenty of athletes where they start talking to coaches, they being looking at some college campuses, and the future plans start to get made. The vibe on the courts where 2024s and 2025s were playing were extremely positive. Their poise and maturity showed where there were plenty of smiles, laughs, and big plays all throughout the morning. Here are five attackers to know from the Class of 2025 who played in the Iowa Top 250 and will be ones to watch in their club season in 2024.
Haley Nissen Haley Nissen 6'2" | OH Estherville Lincoln Central | 2025 State IA – ELC – Lakes Elite
Outside Hitter
Nissen showed that she would be a Class of 2025 steal. The outside hitter from Northwest Iowa is a big time leaper with a live arm and showed she could score points in various settings. She was an All District performer who racked up plenty of kills in 2023. On Sunday, she was on a court with some of the top 2025s in the gym and showed she could compete against some of the best. Her upside is really high, she has the length and athleticism to play at the next level – her best volleyball is ahead of her.
Emmy McComas Emmy McComas 6'0" | MB Iowa City | 2025 State IA – Iowa City High – Iowa Rockets
Outside Hitter
I saw McComas play her 16s year and she followed up with a very successful high school season at City High. She was impressive in her all around game on Sunday. Not only is she a really athletic, physical attacker, she has a lot of intangibles that are so positive. She’s always talking to others on the court, she is communicating before the play, during the play, and after the play. Her body language is positive and her teammates on her court (which in a showcase setting they are likely unfamiliar with each other) seem very comfortable around her where she raises the level of play for everyone.
Ady Hermanson – Cedar Rapids Kennedy – Adrenaline (Title Photo)
Outside HItter
Hermanson was explosive with a very active arm from the pin. She is a really dynamic outside hitter where she can serve receive, pass, and transitions well from passing to attacking. Her intangibles are also extremely positive where she is always there to hype up her teammates. She is a high academic pick up where the gym gets better with her presence.
Sydney Light Sydney Light 6'0" | MB Carlisle | 2025 State IA – Carlisle – Iowa PowerPlex
Middle Blocker
Light was playing out of the middle and showed she had a lot of pop on her swing. She could hit the corners and everything in between. Being a middle blocker can be a tough position, but Light has the athletic ability to close as well as be a physical presence with her block. She is one Iowa college coaches can put a star next to in regards to seeing her play this club season and getting her on campus.
Emmory Toppenberg Emmory Toppenberg 6'0" | MB Norwalk | 2025 State IA – Norwalk – Roots
Middle Blocker
Toppenberg was part of a Norwalk team that made their way to the state tournament this past fall. On Sunday, she was relentless in her ability to work. Carlee Webber Carlee Webber 6'0" | MB Marion | 2025 State IA and her were going head to head on their court out of the middle where they didn’t get much rest. Toppenberg was able to the pins to block as well as transition to be available to attack.
