For the second Saturday in a row, I traveled to Olathe for the Winter Warmup Challenge which took place at the Homefield Courts.

I watched three matches involving teams in the 15 Premier Pools.

The first match I scouted on December 9 was a two-set split between the newly formed club 913 Athletics' 15-1 squad and [program_tooltip program_id='428892' first='PVA' last='']'s 14-1 club team.

Here is a look at four players who caught my eye on the 913 15-1 team during their first match in Pool A play.

[player_tooltip player_id='489446' first='Mel' last='Murphy'], 5'7”, S, Mill Valley, ‘27

Murphy has nice touch as a setter and understands how to run an offense. She has a serve that looks like it has been fired from a bazooka. She is lefty and I could see her having more of a role as a hitter as she gets older. The Mill Valley prospect finished with 10 assists, four digs, and one kill in the win over [program_tooltip program_id='428892' first='PVA' last=''].

[player_tooltip player_id='530217' first='Addie' last='Price'], 5'6”, OH, Mill Valley, ‘27

Price can hit from any position. Like Murphy, she is left-handed and plays high school ball for Mill Valley. She has versatile skills and filled up her stat sheet with six kills, four serve receptions, and two digs. She moves really well, communicates with teammates, and will only get better as she gains more experience.

[player_tooltip player_id='530328' first='Trin' last='Star'], 5'4”, OH, Shawnee Mission West, ‘27

Star seemed taller than 5-foot-4, but I will go with the reported height. She plays taller than she is and is a hustle player. What impressed me the most was how poised she was and how she did not let mistakes get to her. She finished with five digs and one serve reception in 913's first match of the season.

[player_tooltip player_id='530325' first='Camryn' last='Wallerstedt'], 5'5”, OH/DS, Olathe East, ‘27

Wallerstedt, right now, is the perfect role player for the team. She plays with confidence, but there is also a sense of unselfishness that radiates from her game. She can jump, she can pass, and it seems like she is willing to do whatever a team or program needs her to do at this age. She racked up five digs, four serve receptions, and one kill.
