Multiple players have climbed into the rankings for the first time right at the end of the year. The class of 2024 is deep with senior talent, and many of these prospects were seen in person for the first time by Prep Dig. Here are several that caught our eye in this 2024 rankings update.
Claeys is a 2024 attacker who played at her best in crucial moments against the best possible competition. She tallied over 20 kills several times during the season for Meridian, including 26 against Lynden. At 6’1, Claeys was a force on the pin and out of the pipe, stepped up to take all the pressure swings as the only senior on the Trojans squad and will finish up her final club season with SIVA .
The Cedar Park Christian outside was a four year varsity player, and saved her best for last with the Eagles this season. She lands at #72 overall in the rankings , after hammering over 400 kills as a senior- eclipsing the 100 kills mark for her career and increasing her hitting percentage each season. That improvement is a testament to Greff’s approach to the game mentally, she developed a variety of shots to keep the defense honest, while still bringing out her thundering swings down the line when the time was right.
A team captain as a senior for Mercer Island, Wong helped to lead the team to a hard fought state tournament berth. Wong has a smooth and high release, she uses her 5’9 height to connect quickly with her attackers when she runs tempo attacks. Defensively she played all out, and her deep float serves kept Islander opponents out of system.
Rising led Goldendale to a seventh place trophy at the 2B State Tournament- the 5’9 senior blasted kills from all angles to power the Timberwolves through the season. Rising maximizes her swing, and she can heat it up all over the court, The Goldendale offense found her in the backrow and all along the net, allowing her to slice and dice opposing defenses. Her 44 kills in her final high school match put Rising over 100 for her career.
It was a senior season to remember for Lemalu, the fourth year varsity player was a huge part of another terrific year for her Puyallup team. Lemalu racked up kills from the right side, had matches of over 15 digs, and at times stepped in to pass nails in serve receive. Her overall skill set as a player is outstanding, and any college program will be better with her in the gym. Lemalu jumps into the rankings as the 13th ranked overall RS.
The University Place senior is currently committed to Kenyon College in Ohio. The Owls play in the Division III North Coast Athletic Conference, and Sjolander is a technically sound and athletic addition at the libero spot. She is a touch longer at 5’7 than some defenders, and she is able to run down balls and angle her platform to get to shots that may be out of reach for other libs. Sjolander takes care reading hitters, getting out from behind the blockers and thinking the game as she competes. She check in as the #20th ranked libero overall in this update.
Zaddack checks in at #74 overall, after a senior season to remember for Blaine. The 6 foot MB crushed the ball all year, and she recently signed with Western Washington to continue her volleyball career with the Vikings. Not many teams had success stopping the senior star when Blaine has a free ball, she drove the ball at hard angles and to the deep corner to score, racking up big kill numbers for a middle along the way. Blaine would move Zaddack to the outside pin to keep her attacks coming in certain rotations, showing off her versatility as a hitter.
