With a heavy contingent of talent out of the talent-heavy Oakland County, High Performance Nike 16-1 is full of hungry talent ready to prove themselves during the 2024 club season.
Here’s a closer look at what HPVBA Nike 16-1 has for the new season.
Laney Champagne – Clarkston | Lilah Eliassen – Lake Orion | Ellasyn Glaz – Oxford |
Eleanor Luhmann – Lake Orion | Shannon McShane – Stoney Creek | Tara Swanson – Oxford |
Sarah Traynoff – Lake Orion | Delilah Warlick – Troy | Meghan Weiss – Oxford |
Madolyne Winowski Madolyne Winowski 5'10" | S Oxford | 2026 State MI – Oxford |
Flexible roster
High Performance has a lot of players that can play multiple positions, which gives the team a lot of flexibility within the roster and plenty of depth to work with.
Defense should benefit most from this, as High Performance has a lot of players that are comfortable in the back row.
Eleanor Luhmann will be the lead defender for the squad, coming from the Stoney Creek program. She’s a very consistent passer and has a lot of ball control that will help these young hitters continue to develop.
Tara Swanson is another solid defender that had varsity experience with Oxford this season, while Meghan Weiss is a DS/OH option that also comes from the Oxford program and has the ability to be a solid anchor for the back row.
Powerful hitting options
The flexibility with the roster will also apply to the offense, as head coach Tony Scavarda has the ability to move a lot of players around.
This club season could be a breakout year for Laney Champagne, an athletic outside from the Clarkston program. She’s got a heavy arm and a sound six-rotation player.
Alongside Champagne is Delilah Warlick out of Troy. Warlick played middle for Troy’s varsity squad this past fall, but will be converting to outside for High Performance. Ella Glaz is an OPP option from the Oxford program as well, while Weiss can also play the outside when not at DS.
In the middle, High Performance has Shannon McShane from the Stoney Creek program. They also have Lake Orion’s Lilah Eliassen.
Eliassen has shown stretches of being dominant. When she’s connecting with her setters, she’s able to take over a game. He 6-footer showed good finishing ability as a varsity member of the Dragons and is building on that thus far during club season.
Inexperience setters
Where High Performance will be challenged this year is at the setter position, but there is still a high ceiling for their options.
Sarah Traynoff and Madolyne Winowski Madolyne Winowski 5'10" | S Oxford | 2026 State MI are a pair of setter/OPP options for High Performance.
Both saw varsity action this year for Lake Orion and Oxford, respectively.
They come into the club season without a lot of experience in high-pressure situations at the setter position, but both are putting in the time to improve and doing so rapidly.
As the setters continue to grow and develop, we should see this High Performance team take a lot of big steps forward.
Early results
High Performance opened its season at the JVA Rock N’ Rumble in Cleveland a few weeks ago.
After suffering a pair of tough losses to open play in the 16 Premier Division, High Performance bounced back nicely.
The squad went on to win three straight to close out the weekend, winning all six sets.
That gave them the Silver Bracket title in the division and some momentum going forward as they get ready for the Steel City Freeze in Pittsburgh.
