Just like that, club season is upon us!
After another incredible high school season, this club season is proving to be another big one for Michigan-based club teams. In 2023, we saw national champions be crowned as well as many top finishes from all ages from these prestigious clubs. It’s time to look to the future and see what these clubs have in store for us in 2024.
Looking at Legacy’s 17s age group, we have one of the top teams in the open division and potentially a real threat in the premier division. Let’s take a look at Legacy 17-1 and 17-2 Adidas.
17-1 Adidas

From a national championship in their 15s year, to now, this group has become a staple in the open space for years now. After a top five finish at AAU Nationals in June, this group became one of the most sought after groups in the country for recruiting. Let’s take a look at how 17-1 Adidas is shaping up in 2024.
Power on the Pins
This is a real solid group of pins that include the likes of the Marie Laurio Marie Laurio 5'10" | OH Saline | 2025 State #147 Nation MI (Syracuse), Molly Reck Molly Reck 5'10" | OH Northville | 2025 State MI (Oakland), and Mallory Reck Mallory Reck 5'10" | RS Northville | 2025 State MI (Marist) as returners. These three have played pivotal roles for this team for a few years now.
Last year saw the emergence of Laurio, taking on the reigns as a six rotation powerhouse. She’s developed a really nice array of shots at the net and throughout the back court that makes her hard to defend. The Reck twins have really come into their own as well throughout the 2023 year. While we saw them take huge leaps last club season, it was this past fall with Northville, where they saw the biggest jump. The two became staples in the Division I space and led the Mustangs to a Final Four. They both can swing really well on either pin which gives Legacy a lot of options.
Rounding the list of pins, Legacy tacks on a product out of the west side of the state, Layla Visser Layla Visser 5'11" | OH Rockford | 2025 State MI . Visser comes to Legacy by way of Rockford/MVA. This is another player for the group that is in that 5’10-6’0 range but with some excellent leaping abilities. We didn’t get to see much of Visser in the fall due to nagging shoulder issues. However, with an entire fall to rehab, a healthy Visser for Legacy could be a real dangerous situation for opponents.
Middle Territory
Last season saw Legacy really ride and die by the way of their middles. If they can be fed at a high rate, Legacy was winning more times than not. Olivia Grenadier Olivia Grenadier 6'1" | MB Country Day | 2025 State #91 Nation MI (Colorado) and Addison Williams Addison Williams 6'2" | MB South Lyon East | 2025 State MI return for another go-around with this group. Two veteran players for this team, the two have the ability to take over matches.
Grenadier really became a staple for this group last club season. No matter where on their court her setter was, the connection was money. Whether it was a high ball in the middle, a quick ball along the net or a slide behind the setter, Grenadier is a scoring machine. As much of an effective scorer, she’s also one of the most effective blockers in the open field. For Williams, I’ll be very curious to see where she’ll play this season. En route to their title run her 15s year, Williams seemed to have found lightning in a bottle on the right side. Due to personnel, Williams spent a majority of last season in the middle, becoming a really strong one at that. With the addition of another middle to this group, I could see William weave between the two slots and give Legacy an even more intense blocking presence at the net.
Speaking of that other middle, Lauren Johnson Lauren Johnson 6'2" | MB South Lyon East | 2025 State MI joins Legacy after somewhat of a breakout season with Michigan Elite last year. An incredible blocker in her own right, Johnson’s addition to this team gives them a huge leg up when it comes to net defense. She was critical in Elite’s National Runner-Up finish at AAUs and a top ten finish at USAVs. Johnson brings some much needed size to this group and could become a dangerous threat towards the latter stretch of the season.
Deadly Defenders
Another veteran player at the libero position, Devin Dzienny Devin Dzienny 5'8" | DS/L St. Ursula | 2025 State #75 Nation OH (Florida) is coming back for more. A product out of the Toledo area, Dzienny has become known as one of the top defensive prospects in the country for this class. She has the ability to take control of matches with her range on the court, both defensively and in reception.
Joining Dzienny, Legacy brings on another Toledo-area prospect, Ryan Dzierwa. This is one of the more exciting add-ons to this group. Dzierwa is not only a player that could compliment Dzienny on the court, but also push for time in the jersey. With her presence on the roster, it gives Legacy a lot of options that they didn’t have without another DS on the roster last season.
Setting the Pace
She is arguably one of the top players in this 2025 class and the glue to what makes this team as successful as they are. Campbell Flynn Campbell Flynn 6'2" | S Mercy | 2025 State #4 Nation MI (Nebraska) comes back for yet another go-around in the Orange and Blue. Flynn is coming into the season riding some serious waves of momentum. After another highlight club season, Flynn committed to the University of Nebraska following another Legacy phenom, Harper Murray. She then followed this up by setting the U19 USA NT to a World Championship in Croatia and the U21 USA NT to a sixth place finish in Mexico. Fast forward another couple months, Flynn forged the way for Mercy in winning their second state title in school history. Maybe she can go 3 for 3 and win Legacy another national title this summer?
17-2 Adidas
Amelia Klos Amelia Klos 6'0" | OH Anchor Bay | 2025 State MI – Anchor Bay | Emily Edwards Emily Edwards 5'8" | OH Rochester Adams | 2025 State MI – Rochester Adams | Isabelle Earley Isabelle Earley 6'0" | MB Novi | 2025 State MI – Novi |
Kadie Tarasiewicz Kadie Tarasiewicz 6'0" | MB Orchard Lake St. Mary’s Preparatory | 2025 State MI – Orchard Lake St. Mary’s | Ava Barnes Ava Barnes 5'11" | S Brown City | 2025 State MI – Brown City | Brooke Hehl Brooke Hehl 5'8" | S Lutheran Northwest | 2025 State MI – Lutheran Northwest |
Kendall Williams Kendall Williams 6'1" | MB Grand Blanc | 2025 State MI – Grand Blanc | Samantha Bearer Samantha Bearer 5'7" | DS/L South Lyon East | 2025 State MI – South Lyon East | Arynn Randle El Arynn Randle El 5'11" | OH Detroit Country Day | 2025 State MI – Detroit Country Day |
Alivia Brown Alivia Brown 5'9" | DS/L Temperance Bedford | 2025 State MI – Bedford |
Another really promising 2s team out of the Legacy cannon. Last year was a really promising season for these players, with a couple of new faces in the mix, Legacy 17-2s could really be nice contender in the 17 Premier division this season.
Power on the Pins
17-2 brings on a pretty promising trio of pins that include Emily Edwards Emily Edwards 5'8" | OH Rochester Adams | 2025 State MI , Amelia Klos Amelia Klos 6'0" | OH Anchor Bay | 2025 State MI and Arynn Randle El Arynn Randle El 5'11" | OH Detroit Country Day | 2025 State MI . Edwards and Klos are returners from last year’s 2s group, while Randle El is a recent transfer into the state. All three hitters are coming off of stellar junior campaigns at their respective high schools. Klos and Edwards found themselves at the forefront of Anchor Bay and Rochester Adam’s offense. Randle El proved to be a great sparkplug for DCD in her first year with the program.
Middle Territory
The middle territory is where we could see this Legacy team reaally elevate their game head-and-shoulders above the competition. Kadie Tarasiewicz Kadie Tarasiewicz 6'0" | MB Orchard Lake St. Mary’s Preparatory | 2025 State MI and Isabelle Earley Isabelle Earley 6'0" | MB Novi | 2025 State MI return to this group from last years team. Tarasiewicz became an incredible force for Orchard Lake in the fall. An incredibly efficient attacker and stellar blocker, Tarasiewicz could be an X Factor in the middle. Earley is a steady player for this team with her consistent blocking presence.
Joining the team this year, Kendall Williams Kendall Williams 6'1" | MB Grand Blanc | 2025 State MI joins this team after a debut club season with Michigan Elite last year. Giving this team some much needed size, Williams could be another X Factor type of player with her blocking and efficiency on the offense.
Deadly Defenders
Coming in to hone down the back row, Legacy returns Alivia Brown Alivia Brown 5'9" | DS/L Temperance Bedford | 2025 State MI (Bowling Green) and Samantha Bearer Samantha Bearer 5'7" | DS/L South Lyon East | 2025 State MI . Brown is a player coming off of an incredible season in the fall with Bedford. As a six rotation outside attacker, Brown was responsible for a lot of heavy lifting in her first contact while bringing a crafty offense. Brown can really be the glue to this team as either a libero or a six rotation attacker.
Bearer is another South Lyon East product in this 17s class that comes into the club season after a great fall with SLE. She’ll be a player that could get a lot of looks in the jersey depending on where Brown ends up. Either way, it’s a great get for this team.
Setting the Pace
And bringing it all together, Legacy taps on to Ava Barnes Ava Barnes 5'11" | S Brown City | 2025 State MI (Davenport) and Brooke Hehl Brooke Hehl 5'8" | S Lutheran Northwest | 2025 State MI to run the offense. These players are coming off of incredible fall seasons with their respective teams. Barnes and Hehl cemented themselves as two of the top setters in the Division III space. Barnes led Brown City back to their old winning ways with a district title, while Hehl led Lutheran Northwest to a historic Sweet Sixteen run in the same regional.
