With a new year upon us, we have ourselves more commitments to report on.
With a few of these coming from the latter portions of the 2023 year, let’s get caught up on who from the 2024 and the 2025 class have recently committed to the next level.
Jordyn Hughes Jordyn Hughes 6'0" | MB Portage North | 2025 State MI to UConn
5’11 MB – Portage Northern/Dead Frog
Jordyn Hughes Jordyn Hughes 6'0" | MB Portage North | 2025 State MI has been a personal favorite for a few years now. An athlete that oozes of athleticism and raw talent, this is a huge steal for UConn. Hughes may only be 5’11, but she jumps out the gym. She gets up high and she manages to elevate at such a speed, it’s hard for anybody to touch her, let alone slow her down.
Hughes is coming off of a big 2023 year with her top five finish at AAUs and an Elite 8 appearance this fall. She’s back on that star-studded 17 Black team at Dead Frog.
Layna Waselewsky Layna Waselewsky 5'5" | DS/L Forest Hills Eastern | 2025 State MI to Eastern Michigan
5’5 L – Forest Hills Eastern/FaR Out
Eastern Michigan has been picking up quite a few dandies in their last couple of commitments. Layna Waselewsky Layna Waselewsky 5'5" | DS/L Forest Hills Eastern | 2025 State MI looks like she may be another one of those. Waselewsky is another one of those top notch defenders out of the FaR Out cannon. She’s been a little bit under the radar within this 2025 class, but she’s been getting some nice buzz around her these last few months.
This player is a recent addition to FO’s 18 Black squad, one of the top 18s teams in the country. With her current trajectory, Waselesky can become a big power player this club season.
Abby Pickard Abby Pickard 5'10" | S Lakewood | 2025 State MI to Northern Kentucky
6’0 S – Lakewood/FaR Out
Another FaR Out product, this is a player that has been a long awaited announcement. She’s been setting some of the best teams at FaR Out in recent memory. So, it was a matter of time that she’d land at a real good program. Not only is Abby Pickard Abby Pickard 5'10" | S Lakewood | 2025 State MI going to an exciting Northern Kentucky team, but she’ll be joining current teammate, Kendall Hopewell Kendall Hopewell 6'1" | MB Forest Hills Northern | 2024 State #193 Nation MI once more in a few seasons.
After winning the Emperor’s Cup with 18 Black last April and placing fifth in 17 Open at AAU Nationals, Pickard returns to 18 Black for another year at the helm of the offense.
Alivia Brown Alivia Brown 5'9" | DS/L Temperance Bedford | 2025 State MI to Bowling Green State
5’10 OH/L – Bedford/Legacy
This is a really exciting player, and one that holds a lot of promise in the collegiate space. After rocking it out with Bedford this fall, Alivia Brown Alivia Brown 5'9" | DS/L Temperance Bedford | 2025 State MI announced she’d be joining forces with Mid-Major powerhouse, Bowling Green State. This could be a huge get for both parties within a few years.
Brown, for the bulk of her career, has been a utility player. With the ability to do just about anything on the court, her bread and butter is at that libero position. Which, this is something that might pan out really well for the Falcons. Brown has never honed in one particular position, doing so in college, she could become even more of a power.
Jackie Scheiber Jackie Scheiber 6'0" | S Riverview | 2024 State MI to Saginaw Valley State
6’0 S/OPP – Riverview/Michigan Elite
The 2024 class is coming to close, but there still quite a few dandies waiting in the wings to commit. This is another one of those commitments that have been a long-awaited announcement. Much like Brown, Jackie Scheiber Jackie Scheiber 6'0" | S Riverview | 2024 State MI is quite the utility, and a HUGE get for Saginaw Valley.
Rotating throughout her career as both a setter and an opposite, Scheiber has shown signs of really exciting things in either position. Her versatility will give the Cards some options when she arrives to campus this fall.
