Elite Defense
L2 181 has a collection of two of the best liberos in the state in Saline’s Olivia Behen Olivia Behen 5'5" | DS/L Saline | 2024 State MI and Northville’s Greta McKee Greta McKee 5'5" | DS/L Northville | 2024 State MI .
Both play with a lot of competitive fire and provide a boost to their teammates with their play and energy.
Both have also been up against the best hitters in the state on a consistent basis, making their games very polished and ready for the challenges of a competitive club season.
Behen has been the rock of the Saline defense for years and had over 1,100 digs in her prep career.
McKee has been part of an impressive Northville defense in recent years. Her tenacity and serving ability were a difference maker for the Mustangs.
Power on the outside
L2 181 won’t be lacking in a lot of power arms on the pins.
Cameron Herman Cameron Herman 5'11" | OH Hartland | 2024 State MI , Abigail Mainka, Catherine Flaharty Catherine Flaharty 6'2" | OH Saline | 2024 State MI , Alyssa Swanson and Katie Berry Katie Berry 5'9" | OH South Lyon East | 2024 State MI make up an impressive roster of arms for L2 to utilize.
Herman is coming off a big year for the Hartland program, leading it to postseason success in Division 1. She’s got length and agility to make any shots you can ask for at the pin.
Flaharty is also from the Saline program where she had a breakout season for the Hornets. She plays very long at the net and knows how to find the openings in the defense.
Mainka and Swanson both come from the Brighton program. Both are well-rounded players that can make key defensive plays while also being high-percentage finishers at the net.
Berry is coming off a strong year for the South Lyon East program. Playing on a team with a lot of size, Berry was the ultra-athletic, six-rotation outside that used her explosiveness to bring a lot of power shots to the net. She also covered the court very well defensively.
Size in the middle
L2 has a lot of size to work with in the middle behind Brighton’s Karlie Vogelheim Karlie Vogelheim 5'11" | MB Brighton | 2024 State MI , Howell’s Emerson Baum Emerson Baum 6'0" | MB Howell | 2024 State MI and Flushing’s Alyviah Wright.
Vogelheim is a 6’1” imposing middle that gets her hands on a lot of opposing attacks and can bring down the hammer when the ball comes her way offensively.
Baum has good chemistry with her setters and is able to get a lot of high-percentage swings. She moves well around the net and has a great sense of timing.
Wright doesn’t have the same height as her peers, but she can vault off the floor and has a nice, high swing that allows her to add a couple of inches to her play at the net. Wright can hammer the ball and plays with good intensity.
Gage handling the setting
Brighton’s Lea Gage Lea Gage 5'10" | S Brighton | 2024 State MI is the setter for this squad, bringing added athleticism and speed to the front line.
Gage has been able to be a setter/hitter combo player during her prep career, but really excels as a setter.
She’s got a natural leadership quality on the court that her teammates feed off of.
Because of her hitting experience, Gage is always a threat offensively and she’s definitely not afraid to be aggressive.
When Gage is locked in, this offense really cooks.
