We focused on front-line players that caught our eye and were off to a hot start for a silver lining to this tournament weekend.
Kylie Best
Kylie Best
Kylie brings a lot to the table, she is every hitters dream setter. She is fast to get under the ball and gives consistent, precise sets to either side, with a no tell backset that left the opposition vulnerable many times. Her athleticism comes in full display with excellent blocking, and tipping to add to her ample tool box. With a fantastic serve, and impressive digs from the back row, there is no doubting her speed and agility to get to any spot on the court to make the play, topped only by her enthusiasm and communication displayed at all times she is one to have on your radar to make a big impact.
Claire came in as a setter/outside hitter with equally impressive skills in both positions. Hitting left handed she was strong and aggressive at the net with a good vertical to make easy kills. A fast thinker she moves well across the net to position herself to make excellent contact with the ball, and has excellent placement skills to find the oppositions weak spot, making her a smart and super cognitive player on the court. She creates efficient plays by getting under the ball well to set for optimum contact by the hitters then smoothly switches to defense with a good block. Showing great chemistry and communication to all players on the court makes her a consummate player to keep tabs on.
Jaycie Hall
Jaycie Hall
Jaycie makes her presence felt at the net, with excellent blocking and a great vertical, she can get the best of the big hits from the opposition to stop the play and gain the point for her team. Honing her timing playing J.V and Varsity at Russel H.S she is very intuitive and easily performs repeat blocking moving quickly and easily up and down the net. Hall plays well with good agility and carries out a strong right hand swing backed up by good footwork to make her a top go to from the setter. Her energy and contribution on most plays are very noticed on the court, making her a standout on the team.
Jordan Fortner
Jordan Fortner
Jordan Fortner turns heads, with a solid, textbook, fast, clean, hard swing and solid blocking skills, powered from an excellent vertical, she makes her presence felt in the rotation. Fortner is a fast explosive player who works well with the setter and always positions herself perfectly to make the big plays happen. She reacts quicky to the opposition’s attacks and makes consistent blocks and lethal hits leading to great scoring opportunities for her teammates, as well as herself. She is equally impressive digging and is fully committed to keeping the ball in play, leaving no doors open for chance. Her energy and enthusiasm brings the team up another level and is a definite force on the court that is very impressive. She is a top contributor to her team, with a bright future. A major player at this tournament!
Kaylee Rexroad
Kaylee Rexroad
Kaylee is a constant advantage taker who can read the for coming play well from the opposition. She showcases great solid blocking skills that come from a substantial vertical with a careful power and presence at the net, she leaves it all on the court. She has her share of hits to no surprise with a great swing and a fast arm, making her a complete package that is consistent and sees plenty of court time. Controlling the play with good communication and a good relationship with the frontline she made hard plays look easy and impressed us with her solid smart positioning to stop the ball in its tracks, or cover where needed. She is sneaky good player which gives her a ton of upside and fun to watch, we will definitely be excited to see more of her in the future.
Ella Price
Ella Price
Ella, while attending Morton M.S., also played for Henry Clay’s Freshman High School team in 2023 and was our youngest player to gather our attention. Bringing great enthusiasm to the team she also brings a full toolbox of developing skill set which is not limited to only setting. With a lethal, consistent serve, we usually see from more seasoned players, Price draws attention with her strong, net skimming quick serve, while the opposition struggled on the return play on more than a few occasions. Price has great hands, and a good eye for setting that makes the hard passes into easy sets for her front line, with excellent technique all the while. With ample opportunity to show effective ball control setting, she possess good foresight to see which options work best for the play and doesn’t back down from hitting or digging, all performed with ample talent. It shows she’s been putting the time into her craft, and we look forward to seeing more of her.
