Last Saturday, the British International School of Houston welcomed one of them, the Star Sports Center #5, hosted by the Houston Stars club. The tournament featured 22 teams from the 16s, 17s and 18s age groups, which competed in a single division.
It was a great opportunity to take a look at some players who don’t always take part in the major events we get to attend and there were some interesting findings made during the day. These right side hitters got the job done at the net:
Adeline Hundl
Adeline Hundl
Hundl helped her team Houston Skyline 17 Black lift the trophy with an undefeated campaign of six wins. It was the second time I got to watch her in action and once again she impressed me with her consistency. Hundl uses her length extremely well on both sides of the game and is a great asset to have at the net. Her offense is well-balanced and efficient because she makes contact with the ball at a very high point and is very smart with her shot selection. Because of her size and reading of the game, she’s also a capable blocker.
Rylee Foerster
Rylee Foerster
Playing on the right, Foerster was a key piece of her The Woodlands Skyline 16 Black team that ranked third in the event with four wins and one loss. Despite not being very tall, she had a strong presence at the net, getting off the floor well and playing with great energy. Foerster did very well offensively, especially when she got to hit a quick set behind the setter. She was seeing the other side of the net very well and was excellent at hitting around the block and scoring off of tips. Her blocking was also solid as she did a very good job of sealing her area of the court.
Nicole Teerman
Nicole Teerman
Teerman and her Katy United 17 Adidas teammates got the team a fifth-place finish at the event with one win and two losses. She’s a very versatile player and I’ve seen her play all three positions at the net – she played middle for Cinco Ranch in the last high school season. She was very consistent with her offense on Saturday, scoring in big moments and limiting her errors to a very low level. Teerman is very long and uses that to her advantage, but also finds good angles with her swings to beat blockers and defenders.
Quinnlin Hickman
Quinnlin Hickman
Hickman was one of the players who appeared on the right for Houston Skyline 16 Black, helping the team finish third with four wins and one loss. A new face to me, she impressed me with a well-developed game and great mobility on the court. Hickman was one of the tallest players on the event, but was also very coordinated, which showed every time she had to drop off the net to make an offensive approach in transition. Her offensive game is very strong as she makes contact with the ball at a very high point and can hit in any direction with power and precision. She also played some middle, displaying good versatility.
