After another incredible high school season, this club season is proving to be another big one for Michigan-based club teams. In 2023, we saw national champions be crowned as well as many top finishes from all ages from these prestigious clubs. It’s time to look to the future and see what these clubs have in store for us in 2024.
Now, onto the 16s age group. Let’s take a look at Legacy and what they have going on with 16-1 Adidas.
16-1 Adidas
Kayla Nwabueze Kayla Nwabueze 6'2" | MB Bloomfield Hills | 2026 State MI – Bloomfield Hills | Gabby DiVita Gabby DiVita 6'1" | OH Grosse Pt. South | 2026 State MI – Grosse Pointe South | Ella Andrews Ella Andrews 6'4" | MB Mercy | 2026 State MI – Mercy |
Meredith Martin Meredith Martin 5'7" | DS/L Marian | 2026 State MI – Orchard Lake St. Mary’s | Kayla Ostrander Kayla Ostrander 5'8" | DS/L Utica Eisenhower | 2026 State MI – Utica Eisenhower | Eva Long Eva Long 5'9" | S Fenton | 2026 State MI – Fenton |
Elise Hiemstra Elise Hiemstra 5'11" | OH Detroit Country Day | 2026 State MI – Detroit Country Day | Aubree Deshetsky Aubree Deshetsky 5'9" | OH North Branch | 2026 State MI – North Branch | Jadyn Kennedy Jadyn Kennedy 5'3" | DS/L Oregon Clay | 2026 State OH – Oregon Clay |
Gina Fedrigo Gina Fedrigo 6'0" | MB Utica Eisenhower | 2026 State MI – Utica Eisenhower |
We’re rounding near that halfway point of the 2024 club season. Coming to this turning point, Legacy 16-1 Adidas has themselves poised as one of the top teams in the country for their age group. This is a crew full of firepower, scrap and a lot of personality. They’re coming off of an incredible run at Triple Crown. After losing the opening match of the tournament, 16 Adidas powered on to win eight straight matches, including the championship game over Mintonette.
Power on the Pins
This quartet of pins is about as good as they come, their magnum opus being Gabby DiVita Gabby DiVita 6'1" | OH Grosse Pt. South | 2026 State MI on the left. This player has been touted to be amongst the top of the class since a young age. And she’s only getting better. Explosive, demanding and extremely hard to slow down, when DiVita says “game-over”, it’s game over man. Alongside her on the left, Aubree Deshetsky Aubree Deshetsky 5'9" | OH North Branch | 2026 State MI is showing off some insane strides since her debut on this team last season. She’s jumping extremely well and finding her shots with some never-before-seen pace. I found her to be one of the unstoppable players during the fall camp with North Branch. While high school is a whole different ball-game than open level club, she’s proving herself to be becoming the “Real-deal”.
On the right pin, Gina Fedrigo Gina Fedrigo 6'0" | MB Utica Eisenhower | 2026 State MI is holding the fort down once again for another season. Fedrigo poses a nice touch on the block for this squad. When paired hip-to-hip with her middle blockers, not many balls are crossing over that net. Coming in as a solid addition to this group comes Elise Hiemsta from Detroit Country Day. This is one of those late bloomers that is showing to make serious impact off of the bench. In her first year playing club at this level, Hiemstra is catching on quick and showing off some huge moves.
Middle Territory
There’s not much argument here. This 1-2 punch in the middle is THE best in the country. Yes, I said, what I said! Kayla Nwabueze Kayla Nwabueze 6'2" | MB Bloomfield Hills | 2026 State MI and Ella Andrews Ella Andrews 6'4" | MB Mercy | 2026 State MI are about as good as it gets when it comes to the middle blocker position. Nwabueze is this fast-twitched monster that can pack a serious punch on offense. Then you have Andrews, towering at nearly 6’4, she missiles the ball from such a stratosphere, not many opposing blockers can manage. Both are impeccable blockers in their own right as well.
Deadly Defense
When you have block like Legacy does at the net, AND THEN a trio like this in the back court… Balls scored on this team are only well-earned. Heading up the back court, Meredith Martin Meredith Martin 5'7" | DS/L Marian | 2026 State MI is cementing herself as an immediate target for when June 15th opens up the recruiting floodgates. The amount of court that this player can cover is quite incredible. In both reception and the defensive phases of the game, Martin is one of the top players.
Alongside her are Kayla Ostrander Kayla Ostrander 5'8" | DS/L Utica Eisenhower | 2026 State MI and Jadyn Kennedy Jadyn Kennedy 5'3" | DS/L Oregon Clay | 2026 State OH . Both of these players are ones that could easily find themselves in the libero jersey at any other top program in the country. That’s how good they are. Ostrander is coming off of a huge high school that saw her dig over 600 balls. Meanwhile Kennedy was a standout for her team out of Ohio.
Setting the Pace
Running the show, it is none other than Eva Long Eva Long 5'9" | S Fenton | 2026 State MI . When you have your first contact this strong and this insane arsenal of weapons to choose from, Long could easily coast on the rest of her team. But somehow, she finds a way to elevate this group even further. I’d argue long to be the true, and underrated X-Factor to this group. She’s pushing the tempo, she’s throwing around the ball and she’s as offensive minded as she is running it. Long brings a strong and complete package to the court. One that acts as an unbreakable glue to the team.
