Anabelle Schembra Anabelle Schembra 5'9" | S Center Grove | 2027 State IN , 5-9, Center Grove, Team Indiana
With a bid in hand for GJNC’s in Vegas this summer, Anabelle plays up on the 16.1 squad at TI and runs a 5-1 to perfection. Her improvement on situational setting—taking what the pass gives you instead of compounding problems with a bad set from a bad pass—has been her biggest improvement from last fall to now. I like her relentless attitude as well. Her leadership skills and constant coachability make her a prime candidate as one of the top setters in this class to be recruited, and has an extended family FILLED with volleyball players and collegiate athletes alike.
Claire Ducey Claire Ducey 5'7" | S Guerin Catholic | 2027 State IN , 5-6, Guerin Catholic, Munciana Indy
Playing for one of the few “National” level teams out of Munciana Indy , Claire is part of a 6-2 at the club level and should be able to do the same in college. Her length despite her apparent lack of size is well used on the court, as she can get to most bad passes and make them better for her hitters. Although I won’t be able to see her play live again this spring, I look forward to her possibly being part of a 6-2 at the varsity level at GC next fall.
Savannah Hooe Savannah Hooe 5'7" | S Silver Creek | 2027 State IN , 5-7, Silver Creek, Union
Another athlete playing up an age group, this one is hard to place into one category. I know she sets at the high school level—her roster position lists “S” as her position on her Hudl page—but she has been a primary-passing six-rotation outside for her club team. No matter, that sounds exactly like a Union kid to me; someone who has all positions well-trained and an overall well-rounded volleyball athlete that can’t be pigeon-holed. She’s recruitable because of those multiple skill sets, and all of those sets are trained to an above-average level.
Reagan Crabtree Reagan Crabtree 5'7" | S Indianapolis Lutheran | 2027 State IN , 5-4, Lutheran, Munciana
If you blink, you’re going to miss the speed Reagan brings to the setting position. Willing to put her body on the line defensively, she’s more than capable of being part of a 6-2 at the next level or being part of either a 5-1 or a 6-2 at the high school level, like she is right now. She careered in her final high school match this past fall, and has three full years to go to show what she’s got at the setting position. Playing bigger than her size, her athleticism takes over regularly, and betters all passes, good and bad.
Calista Pence Calista Pence 5'8" | S Avon | 2027 State IN , 5-8, Avon, Circle City
A hidden gem of a setter on the JV squad last fall, Calista is showing out this spring as the primary setter for 15 Black at Circle, and is in prime position to earn another bid this weekend in Saint Louis at MEQ. Long and lean, Miss Pence has the size and skill to turn any pass into not only a hittable ball, but one in tempo as well. I like her ball placement—not too tight, but not out of system as often as one would think if the pass is poor. Her defense of her position is above-average as well, and can score points behind the baseline regularly.
