The best defender of the setting position in this article, Miss Ducey has risen Guerin Catholic to one of the top programs in all of 3A in the state of Indiana. Their resurgence is paralleled by Claire’s rise in both skill set and volleyball IQ. For a smaller setter, Miss Ducey is more than capable of running a 5-1 on her own, but can also fit into a 6-2 for a program looking to add a smart, quick and adept setter for the next level.

Another “small but mighty” setter from north of Indianapolis, Miss Ducey is known for her deception and hand skill. Leading Guerin to their best record in years, Claire’s one of those kids that don’t exactly wow you with her overall skill set——until you realize that SHE is the setter of the team you just lost to. Consistent, accurate and athletic, Claire will fit best in a 6-2 or a smaller school’s 5-1 offense.

As a VERY underappreciated setter, Claire’s part of a surging program at Guerin Catholic program, and has translated that training to earning a spot on TI’s 17.1 squad. Her footwork is so fast, smooth and natural that it appears inherent to her DNA. Her hands are high and locates the ball accurately for her hitters. Although the tempo looks a little high for my taste her training shows through in every in- and out-of-system situation—-every set is the same to every location every time. There aren’t too many setters from Indiana in any class that can say that.

Smaller than the rest of the setters listed today, Claire is a strong and consistent setter who can get to a ton of passes because of her foot speed to out-of-system plays. Keeping the set in the same tempo, regardless of the pass, is one of her many positive traits that keeps her teams in the winning column. Defensively, she acts more like a 6-2 setter, as her “defense first” mentality on the floor is better than most.

A little on the small side for setting in this class, Claire is a quick and reliable setter that can be comfortable in a small-school 5-1 offense or a three-rotation setter in a 6-2. Probably the best defensive setter in today’s article, Claire’s ability to read and react when defending sets her apart from the others. Yes, she’s the smallest listed today, but her foot speed makes up for that lack of size in a hurry. Whether the pass is in-system or out-of-system, Miss Ducey manages to consistently find the right hitters in the right situation. That’s hard to teach, and with Claire, you don’t have to.
