Two NAIA programs have signed two significant-sized classes that consist of Kansas athletes Bethel and Kansas Wesleyan. Here is a report on eight Kansas athletes who will be joining Jessica Biegert’s Coyotes volleyball squad. A report on the Threshers and other NAIA signees will be coming this week.
Savannah Shahan Savannah Shahan 5'11" | OH Hillsboro | 2024 State KS , 5’11”, OH, Hillsboro
Shahan is the highest-ranked player by Prep Dig to sign with Kansas Wesleyan. She is a tall hitter who is a member of the 1,000-career kill club. Shahan had back-to-back seasons of 300-plus kills tallying 398 her senior season and 382 kills for the Trojans during her junior campaign.
Abigail Gruber Abigail Gruber 5'7" | OH Manhattan-Ogden | 2024 State KS , 5’7”, DS/OH, Manhattan
Gruber can do a little bit of everything on the court. She finished with 160-plus kills and digs for Manhattan during her senior season. She will add solid depth to the Coyotes’ roster and could be used as a utility-type player.
Callie Powell Callie Powell 5'10" | OH Abilene | 2024 State KS , 5’10”, OH, Abilene
Powell has been committed to Kansas Wesleyan for a long time. She committed clear back at Wesleyan’s summer camp that I scouted. She finished her senior season with 190 kills for Abilene. She is a possible six-rotation player who also racked up 325 serve receptions and 359 digs during her final high school season.
Emma Rains Emma Rains 5'8" | OH Newton | 2024 State KS , 5’8”, S/OH, Newton
Rains is another versatile athlete that I saw play during the high school season. She finished with 358 kills for the Railers last season. She has also played setter in the past recording 319 assists during her junior season for Newton. It will be interesting to see how the KWU coaching staff decides to utilize her skills.
Shelby Davidson Shelby Davidson 5'8" | OH Minneapolis | 2024 State KS , 5’8”, OH, Minneapolis
Davidson is an experienced attacker who is a member of the 1,000-career kill club. She racked up 343 kills in 76 sets played last season. Her career high of 407 kills came during her junior season for the Minneapolis Lions.
Maddy Wolf Maddy Wolf 5'8" | RS Heritage Christian Academy | 2024 State KS , 5’6”, RS, Heritage Christian Academy
Wolf was a state champion in her final high school season. She finished with 162 kills and 141 digs last season. She has a dangerous serve that resulted in 65 aces last season for the Chargers.
Malia Smith Malia Smith 5'6" | DS/L Valley Center | 2024 State KS , 5’6”, DS/L, Valley Center
Smith was a defensive whiz for the Hornets and is one of two liberos from Kansas joining the Coyotes program. She finished with 408 digs and 560 serve receptions for Valley Center in her senior season.
Kalie Villagomez Kalie Villagomez 5'4" | DS/L Collegiate | 2024 State KS , 5’4”, DS/L, Collegiate
Villagomez will head to Salina and compete for a spot as a defensive specialist or libero. She finished her senior campaign at Wichita Collegiate with 215 digs and 108 serve receptions.
