Our latest update to the Nebraska Class of 2026 rankings has arrived. We have a lot to discuss from this latest release–stock risers, new additions, and everything in between. It’s a busy week on the site.
Before we get into the fine details, let’s take a moment to recap what’s in this update. The 2026 rankings look a little different now, and it’s worth having a broad overview to lead us off. We’re hoping to be as transparent as possible here, especially with the 2026s entering such a pivotal step in their prep volleyball journey.
Here’s the rundown.
Early-Season Perspective
This update is mostly based on what we’ve seen in the early weeks of the 2024 club season. And we still have a lot of club season left.
We still have a lot of in-person scouting to do this year, and that’s especially true for the Class of 2026. The mid-season qualifier grind is about to start for the 16s, allowing us to see which athletes are separating themselves among the nation’s best. For now, the backbone of this 2026 update is coming from events like the ASICS Presidents’ Day Classic, Triple Crown NIT, two Midwest Power League weekends, and a host of other regional events.
That’s a solid foundation to build our latest update, but it’s only the beginning. We’re looking forward to venues like the Show Me Qualifier, Windy City Qualifier, and Great Plains Region events to dial in these 2026s further. Expect another rankings refresh as we approach the summer months.
By the Numbers
Now that we’ve put things in perspective, here’s a look at the numbers from our new 2026 release.
The previous version of our Nebraska 2026 rankings had just over 70 athletes in the ‘ranked’ portion of the list. This group represented some of the best 2026s we had seen up to that point, but we only had a single club season to go off of. We were due for an expansion.
After all our early-season observations, the ranked list has grown to 120. Many of these athletes were bumped up from the watch list, while others joined the rankings while making their debut in our database.
Assigning numerical rankings gets more and more difficult as the list expands. That’s especially true for the Class of 2026, as we have so much more high-stakes volleyball to watch with this group. So, instead of focusing on the order of our new ranked players, we’d rather frame it this way: being in the rankings reflects player growth and standout performances. 2026s still have a lot to gain, so we’re essentially splitting hairs throughout most of the rankings. The picture will grow clearer, and the rankings will adapt. Appearing anywhere on the list is a major accomplishment.
We have more numbers to accompany this meta-discussion. Along with the growth of the ranked list, we also have plenty of new names in the mix. A little over 40 players have been added to the 2026 database after early club observations. Again, this just scratches the surface of how much we can augment our database. The aforementioned qualifiers and regional events will be huge. Our current list has about 230 players, and I think we can get to 300.
Housekeeping
This update wasn’t just about new players and rankings movement. We also had a lot of info to update.
Last fall’s high school season helped fill in a lot of gaps on where players are competing on the prep side. We’ve discussed the scarcity of varsity opportunities for first-year players, but that’s alleviated a bunch when players hit Year 2. We’ve plugged in as much Class of 2026 high school data as we could find.
It’s still a work in progress on the club front, but we’re chipping away at it. Several noteworthy 2026s have changed clubs this year, and we’ve changed player entries accordingly. Several more gaps will be filled in after future club events, and we don’t need a wholesale rankings update to get that done.
So, if something needs to be changed, give me a holler. We can get that done right away, and it only takes a second!
What Else Do We Need?
We’re already looking ahead at the next steps for these 2026 rankings.
Our latest update has good representation from a lot of major clubs: Premier Nebraska, Nebraska Elite, Nebraska ONE , Nebraska Juniors, Banzai VBC, River City Jrs , and Club Legacy all have new additions and stock risers in this update.
It’s time to go further. Small-town powerhouses are cropping up, and many will be at the Show Me Qualifier or the Great Plains Regional Championships. South Central NE brings a good list of players into the 2026 discussion, and that’s the kind of foundation we can build upon in the next update.
Positional balance is another important consideration. The 2026 rankings might be a little too pin-heavy at this point. Pin hitters are expected to lead the way based on sheer volume, of course, but our proportions could use some work. Setters and defensive specialists will be a special focus for the next wave of new additions, and Nebraska will give us plenty to choose from.
This week, we’ll enjoy the progress made so far and recap all the big 2026 happenings. But we’re not done yet.
